Trump Invokes the DPA to Protect the Nation’s Food Supply Chain
DB Daily Update ^ | David Blackmon

Posted on 04/28/2020 12:59:52 PM PDT by EyesOfTX

On Tuesday afternoon, President Trump made a crucial move to protect the nation’s food supply chain. Faced with the closings of a number of food processing plants around the country – some of the largest of which, under the Smithfield name, are owned by Chinese interests – the President invoked the Defense Production Act to order food processing plants to remain up and running in order to ensure the nation’s supermarket shelves remain stocked with meats and other food.

Jennifer Jacobs ✔ @JenniferJJacobs · 2h BREAKING: Trump plans to order meat processing plants to STAY OPEN, declaring them critical infrastructure under Defense Production Act. Order meant to stave off shortage of beef, chicken, eggs, pork. Plant closures could have shut down as much as 80% of capacity, source says.

Jennifer Jacobs ✔ @JenniferJJacobs BREAKING NEWS: Trump executive order will mandate various meat/egg processing plants stay open. Trump had signaled in Oval minutes ago he'd sign an EO today aimed at Tyson Foods's liability. The order, though, will not be limited to Tyson, I'm told.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-28/trump-says-he-s-issuing-order-for-tyson-s-unique-liability?utm_content=politics&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-politics …

Trump Says He’s Issuing Order for Tyson’s ‘Unique’ Liability President Donald Trump said he’s issuing an executive order aimed at Tyson Foods Inc.’s liability amid reports of coronavirus outbreaks at meat-processing plants that are disrupting the food supply...

Jennifer Rubin ✔ @JRubinBlogger He can order them to open but what if no one shows up? Will natl guard operate?

1,615 12:20 PM - Apr 28, 2020 Twitter Ads info and privacy 393 people are talking about this Other leftist talking points you can find in response to Ms. Jacobs’ tweet include these gems:

– He’ll use the DPA on Tyson, but on to get more testing kits made! (Of course, he hasn’t needed to use it to get test kits made since so many great U.S. companies voluntarily stepped up to the plate to do it.)

– Workers have died in these plants!!!! (No, they haven’t.)

– What about Tyson’s liability??????? (He’s going to sign an EO to take care of that issue.)

And on and on the inanity goes. Expect to see all of these moronic talking points rolled out this afternoon by Juan Williams on The Five.

This is absolutely the right action for the President to take given the state of play right now. The U.S. population has taken all of the restrictions related to the government’s response to the Wuhan Virus quietly to this point, largely because of the various stimulus bills designed to mask all the financial hardships and the fact that no one is going hungry because of it to this point. But that peaceful acquiescence and the increasingly tiresome “we’re all in this together apart” messaging would go down the tubes in a hurry if the pork, chicken and beef suddenly disappears like all the toilet paper suddenly did back in March.

You want to see massive civil unrest in this country like Jennifer Rubin and her fellow DC dimwit brigade are wishing for? There is no surer way to bring that about than through large-scale interruptions in the food supply chain.

This is the right move at the right time by President Trump. All else is just so much noise parroted by a pack of critics who never missed a meal in their privileged lives.

That is all.

“The other side is trying to train wreck the entire economy of this country and subsequently other countries JUST to get political power.”

Oh, I don’t know, I think for the left, wrecking the economy of the USA is an end in and of itself, whether they get political power out of it or not.

That sums it up. The BAD side is actively rooting that we have massive food shortages and riots. They do NOTHING to help or improve the situation, just flame fears and hatred. Democrats will literally do ANYTHING to get Trump out. I’ve never seen such a group of deranged and probably clinically insane people in my life.

Walmart is keeping people coming to work by offering a $2/hr. shift differential. Would work wonders here too.

"Ditch the steak tartare for the next 2 years."

You know, I think I'll give that up forever.

Never had it, have heard of it before, had to look it up. Made with raw ground beef.

It probably only kills 2%. Flubros should enjoy it.

Sorry. Trump has jumped the shark on this Covid crap. He has been extraordinarily badly advised.

The citizens of this country are not supposed to exist at the whim and pleasure of the state.

Invoking the DPA and designating them critical allows them access to the emergency stockpile PPE at non price gouging market costs. It allows them access to government loans. It allows the government to install equipment the government owns or to finance the installation of equipment

and most importantly

It is a liability shield made of unobtainium. To whit: 50 U.S. Code § 4557

No person shall be held liable for damages or penalties for any act or failure to act resulting directly or indirectly from compliance with a rule, regulation, or order issued pursuant to this chapter, notwithstanding that any such rule, regulation, or order shall thereafter be declared by judicial or other competent authority to be invalid.

My great-uncle used to eat raw ground beef.

He was a Catholic priest who spent 35 years living in the Philippines as a missionary. One of many strange habits he picked up there. The other was chewing tobacco. The commercial stuff was too sweet to his taste so he’d take Phillies Blunt cigars and chew them open.

He passed away in Buffalo, New York at age 94.
New York State listed tobacco use as the cause of death on his death certificate.

People will happily starve to death if they know it will make Trump look bad. I know this because the Babylon Bee told me so. And, really, they haven’t actually lied yet.

No problem at all. Even the CDC said you couldn’t get it from food ...unless somebody literally sneezed on the food while serving you. Even then it would be hard to get orally because your stomach acids would attack the virus right away. This is an upper respiratory disease., so essentially you’ve got to inhale it (like any common cold).

Milder doses, such as contact, will result in a milder disease but will still give you immunity. The “viral load”” (how much exposure you get)is heavier from close personal contact bit can easily be reduced wth masks and sneeze guards,

That said, most people don’t have the virus or aren’t going to get it or have already had it.The elderly who were going to die anyway within the next year - (according to an interesting article I saw based on actuarial tables - have already died or would have been with us for only a few more months anyway...but they could have died with friends and family around, I’d rather die that way, even a couple of months earlier, than the worst thing of all, dying alone.
