Think you want to fall in love with a princess?

On this date in 1314, the French crown dissuaded the fantasy by butchering two Norman knights who had sheathed their swords where they oughtn’t.

In the Tour de Nesle affair (English Wikipedia page French), French princess Isabella — then Queen of England, where she is known as Isabella of France or any number of less-flattering sobriquets — noticed that some purses she had once given her brothers’ wives as gifts were being sported by a couple of (evidently metrosexual) dudes in the court.

Let their fate be a warning against regifting...

I’d be for bringing back capital adultery laws.

And capital homo laws and capital pedo laws.

Wouldn’t be many folks left in D.C. if those laws were brought back and duly enforced.

Love the description of Isabella (of France) who would become Queen (consort) of the very queer Edward II (son of Edward The Longshanks First, King of England who was warred on by William Wallace, Braveheart. Edward I turned the easily turncoated Scots lairds against Wallace- they gave him up to a similar death as these knights.Drawn and quartered).

Isabella “the goody two shoes” but also known as the She-Wolf of France, as she deposed the fruit Edward II in favor of her humpmate Roger Mortimer on the side and making herself regent for her son Edward III. A real piece of... work. But great story about the purloined purses from the penetrated... owners of the purses.

The tragedy was that the quite intelligent Queen Eleanor of Castile and Longshanks had fourteen children who generally failed to live long lives. Thus, Edward II, the least talented of all the children, a known homosexual, and despised by his father, managed to gained the throne.

and 12 year old Isabella had to marry him. I cannot imagine what could have gone on in her mind when she realized what he was.
