Missouri Senator Josh Hawley announced his intention to bring up the Justice for Victims of COVID-19 Act in the chamber on Tuesday. The legislation would hold China accountable for covering up the nature of the lethal global coronavirus disease, most significantly making the nation’s government liable to claims in the U.S. court system.

The law would create “a private right of action against the Chinese government for any reckless action it took that caused the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, such as its decisions to withhold information and to gag doctors.”

It is a start. "The legislation would allow American courts to freeze assets owned by Chinese government entities for use as compensation to coronavirus victims."

I would like to see Demonrats in Congress have to go on record for or against.

Good move.

This will isolate the dems even more so, as this war between the Chicoms and innocent Americans increases daily.

Hannity just ‘suggested’ (in not so many words) China holds most of our bonds, and maybe we withhold payments

Do it baby, and actually follow through, don’t just make some empty 30 year litigation nightmare for the victims.

Except that you know, I know, that if they freeze Chinese assets, cash, the American middle class will get nothing. Not a damn cent. It will go into the coffers of international corporations who will use the money to import more overseas workers at a tenth our wages. The middle class as always is overtaxed and screwed over.

China holds most of our bonds, and maybe we withhold payments.

Alexander Hamilton, over Jefferson’s objections, convinced Washington that the U.S. should honor its debts. The then worthless Continental Dollars were honored at face value, which made some speculators rich since they were buying them up at 1¢ to 2¢ on the dollar. But it told the world our word was good. As far as I’m aware, all paper (with the exception of Civil War fractional currency) is still honored.

Don’t know that breaking that precedent is a good idea. Perhaps other ways can be found to make China pay.

“Except that you know, I know, that if they freeze Chinese assets, cash, the American middle class will get nothing.”

Well, OF COURSE.

There would/will be no way to determine individual claims. The American public as a whole would only be compensated by debt cancellation.

American public gets nothing because that’s how the system is set up. That’s how you apparently want it to work. I calculate that 500,000 U.S. will take care of the ruination this Corona virus has wrought to my earnings, investments, future earnings, pain and suffering. Some are compensatory damages, some punitive, some incidental, some liquidated damages. So lets take the Chicoms to court. By proxy if necessary. Let’s make them defend themselves under discovery. Lets put this money where it should be. In the hands of the working middle class. Not to snooty bastards who want the money carted off and used for mysterious unaccountable purposes. For instance I bet Nance Pelosi would love to add a new wing to the old vinyard.
I have damages. I want compensation.

Lets add a provision that any Government official who has accepted any payment directly or through an associate or family member from any Chinese owned or controlled entity, must report that payment as income in a public filing.

I seem to recall the tobacco settlement money. Billions divided up between politicians, lawyers, State General Funds, advertising. Thieves operating under the color of the law. I for one am sick and tired of being lied to and stolen from. The Bush family, the Clinton’s, Obama, Jack Welch all these NAFTA advocates who got rich on the backs of the American middle class. It’s time to put things right.

Tru dat,
but there is no possible CommunistChinese compensation other than cancelation of all US debt to Communist China and resultant benefit to the US economy.

The most practical way of collecting reparations from China for destroying the Western economies and whoever else wishes to join the West is to for Western governments to impose a 75% import tax on all goods imported from China. They will at least collect some taxes from China before forcing their supply chains out of China to avoid the tax. Hopefully this will crash the Chinese economy and dispatch enemy China back to the third world where they were meant to be.

Bill Gates. George Soros. Did they fund any virus research? If they did they can be sued. How about the Clinton foundation? Other NGO’s. If they did they can be sued. The government can freeze Chinese assets and let citizens sue in civil court.

Not to disagree with you too much but those lawsuits will stretch into the 21st century and will therefore be moot.

If we could ever get this, we might get some of these Chicomm bankrolled crooks booted out of Congress and maybe we could get our country back on track again.
