David Horowitz, among others, has noted that Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out. We see that today, as state governments assert the power, often illegally, to tell the rest of us how to live our lives, and to shut down hundreds of thousands of businesses.
In Colorado, a man was playing with his six-year-old daughter in a park with no one else within a vast distance, when he was arrested by a group of police officerswrongly, based on signs at the parkwho themselves failed to follow guidelines as to use of masks, gloves, and social distancing. Happily, there was one person close enough to film what happened:
I am no alarmist, but I am surprised at how easy it has been for the authoritiesliberal authorities, in most casesto cow the rest of us into radically and unquestioningly changing our behavior in response to orders of dubious legality that are not supported by any scientific proof.
Issuing quarantine orders to deal with an epidemic is a classic instance of the states police power, but what we are seeing today goes so far beyond any historical precedent that I doubt that our freedom-loving forbears would have stood for it. But we seem to be untroubled.
All valid points. Nailed it, he did.
I’ve not been stopped in NYC on numerous excursions..
But when they shut down 90 percent of the reasons to leave your house, it is effectively a quarantine
Now isnt just a gathering. Its the High Holy Days for many religions. And too many secular powers are dictating that the religious not gather for a day to celebrate a religious gathering that is integral to their religion. We are turning into a nation of Sheeple, letting the powers that be, many of whom do not have our best interests at heart, dictate the minutiae of our lives. I for one am thoroughly sick of it.
One day this nightmare destruction of our way of life and our economy is going to come to an abrupt end, and that day is soon if President Trump has something to do with it, and he does. It may very well happen all at once. Does that mean the next day when people gather throughout our Country again, that suddenly all at once, it is all right to once again gather, because that is exactly what is going to happen. Not okay one day, okay the next.
Right now we are all being channeled into the few places that are still open, such as the grocery stores as we must eat, right? So we are herded all together into places like Walmart and the like, where we can all infect each other or catch the virus off of all of the stocked food/supplies on the shelves where the virus can live for hours. What fools we are to think that by just wearing a mask, or avoiding each other like the plague is going to save us all from the virus when their is a multitude of ways one can contract it.
Our Country, just like all the other countries around the world, will have to once again mill about with our fellow man, as no economy can sustain closing down for months on end. Let the virus play itself out, as all of them do, take necessary precautions in your own lives to minimize its effects to you and your loved ones, but for heaven sakes dont destroy your own Country, cause infinite more pain to your fellow man by destroying livelihoods, causing physical and mental pain to so many, and in the end, life will go on anyhow and we will have to get back to some sense of normalcy.
People die, most of them old and/or with other underlying ailments; you cant save everyone while destroying even more people in the process. I am right in the category of those most at risk, older, I have co-morbidities (what an awful concept); Im right in the ballpark of one who if infected could have a very bad go of it. But I refuse to whine, I have absolutely no desire to ruin our Country for the rest of us in order to save my own hide. Ill take that risk in order that the Country as a whole doesnt sink into a Great Depression, with all of its attendant problems, both physical and mental.
Good grief folks, stiffen up those spines and stop being led around by the nose by the alleged experts such as Fauci and Birx who are Clinton/Obama lovers with an agenda, and a bunch of models that are proven wrong over and over again. While the MSM/Dems/fascists scare the heck out of what is an increasingly willing to be led around by the nose populace. I for one refuse to subscribe further to such submissive cowering. I will fight for our freedom from those that are using the coronavirus as an excuse to terrorize, bully, and misuse their power in order to control and further subjugate us.
This is not the America I know and love. Time to fight back and retrieve our dignity and sanity against those that would destroy our way of life. There are those amongst us that do not have our best interests at heart while they pretend that they do. Practice further self deception at the risk of you and your Countrys peril.
Yes, nailed it.
I’m not kidding here: The only place I feel I’m surrounded by what I consider real, patriotic americans is at a Trump rally. Even in church, we get some leftist oddballs.
For sure. The Liberals drove a wedge into America decades ago and it’s been polarizing the country ever since.
Thanks of course to help from the MSM and NEA
This virus gives the Treasonists everything they always wanted, a destroyed economy, unemployment at 3rd world status, a reason for the government to act totalatarian, and best of all a big opportunity to remove Trump.
It will bring a mark of everlasting infamy on the present generation enlightened as it is if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of designing men.
-Sam Adams
American liberty is not part of any genetic code, nor is it a physical feature.
There will be breaches in it from time to time. Unless you only read survey-level American history, you will know of many instances from the early days where that has happened.
It is how you hold those responsible accountable that defines where the country goes.
A lot of people on the right opened the door for this situation via participating in fearmongering and educing panic, so there is plenty of blame to go around. Now, people can define the future by shoving it back in the face of local hacks that walked right into that open door to get in-touch with their inner control freak.
Tomorrow I'm going on a road trip / loop through some good scenery with some friends. Sure, we'll "social distance" - each in our own vehicle. We're taking advantage of some good weather and cheap gas to GTFO for a while.
I'm ready to go back to normal. Any local business that reopens in defiance of the orders - I'm there, I'll support them.
I wasn’t “cowed” into compliance (as the original article states). I was (and continue to be) advised to do so based on recommendations from a president I trust (and still do), who in turn based his advice on what he felt was valid input from scientists. And I didn’t have access to (or knowledge of) contrary scientific information that would have prompted me to refuse to comply.
In a way, it is individuals acting individually, because each individual is scared for his or her life. This virus was described as the grim reaper by invisible vapor from day one.
Not true. We are very troubled. We're troubled at nutcases like the author who seem to think being an American consists of a constant rebellious spirit that rejects obvious facts and credible reporting from many nations as "unsupported by scientific proof".
Americans aren't permanently giving up any rights. And we are only temporarily giving up those rights such as those of assembly that are necessary to stop a deadly pandemic. We're coordinating with our leaders to stop a pandemic and save lives.
That the author doesn't get that now is a time to come together and fight against this common enemy, demonstrates that the author doesn't understand what it is to be an American.
Instead he demonstrates what it is to be a selfish uncaring idiot.
At best, he is on the level of the guy licking toilets to show that he isn't afraid of coronavirus. But he's probably stirring up fears of rights loss for his own financial gain.
Good point. How does the mitigation look when you compare <18,000 dead against 16 million newly unemployed?
In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations. Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 19181956
Yes, we’re still Americans. The only reason we are tolerating this is because we trust our President. If he and we have been punked, which is looking more and more likely, he will figure it out and is working hard to get our nation open.
The actions of a lot of “only following orders” cops will not be forgotten when this nonsense is over.
That’s almost as funny as it is infuriating.
