On April 2, 2020, the Tribune Review reported:

Pittsburgh scientists develop possible coronavirus vaccine, hope FDA can fast-track it

A potential vaccine against the novel coronavirus causing the covid-19 outbreak has been created in a University of Pittsburgh lab.

Researchers say the first phase of human clinical trials — which would include healthy volunteers in the Pittsburgh area — could start in the coming months.

The next day, I googled and called the relevant phone number of the doctor who was leading this research. The person on the phone gave me someone else’s name and phone number. When I called and talked to that person, she said that it was way too soon for human trials, and that they were not currently looking for volunteers. I asked her if I could give her my name and phone number so they could call me when they were ready. She said OK, and I gave it to her. But she didn’t sound enthusiastic, and she didn’t even repeat my phone number to verify that it was correct. I got the feeling that the article in the Tribune-Review was being overly optimistic.

They were paying 4,000 in CA last month I think!!

I’ve been looking in NYC and can’t find any.

Of course you are doing it for noble purposes and I am doing it for money :)

Yeah, vaccines take a long while to design, and more time to run the trial, and then get approval, and months to crank out in large amounts.

Mrs. RWA and I were on the wait list for the shingles vaccine. Six months.

No, you left out the most important step. Step one is to get funding. Free money to do the study.

Evidently this place ain’t got the cash yet.

"I got the feeling that the article in the Tribune-Review was being overly optimistic."

I wonder if COVID-19 is now a more popular buzzword for securing possibly constitutionally indefensible, unaccountable federal funding than politically correct “global warming” is/was.

Thank G-d that PDJT is president.

Send "Orange Man Bad" Democrats and RINOs home in November!

MAGA, also KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)

Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping COVID-19 will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.

While there are about 6 “vaccine candidates” ready, none are ready for human trials just yet. Apparently lab ferrets are very susceptible to COVID-19 (same as SARS1), so I suspect there is animal testing in progress.

If UPMC wants or needs funding for running clinical trials, there are plenty of pharmaceutical companies with whom they could partner. That’s a better way than waiting for some government grant (and all the conditions that come with them.)

This "trial" does not yet appear on clinicaltrials.gov website, so they may not even have an approved protocol.

Pitt is my alma mater, so I would love to see them have success with this, but they seem a bit behind their propaganda.

Bureaucratic Fast Track .... if it were true, evolution would be faster. Bureaucrats only have two speeds: really, really, really slow and stop.
