Illinois Gov. Pritzker mocks Trump’s coronavirus efforts

In an escalating war of words Sunday, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker compared President Donald Trump to “the carnival barkers that are tweeting from the cheap seats.“

Pritzker was responding to a critical tweet from Trump, who said the governor “and a very small group of certain other governors … shouldn’t be blaming the federal government for their own shortcomings. We are there to back you up should you fail, and always will be!”

Trump was, in turn, responding to criticism from Pritzker about states having to compete often against each other for medical supplies and even overpaying as a result of a federal shortage.

“We’re competing against each other, we’re competing against other countries,“ Pritzker said on CNN's “State of the Union.”

“It‘s a wide Wild West … out there. And, indeed, we’re overpaying, I would say, for [personal protective equipment] because of that competition,” Pritzker said on CNN.

In his daily afternoon press briefing, in which Illinois announced three more deaths and 296 more confirmed cases, including of an infant, Pritzker opened his presser saying he’d address Trump’s tweet before he knew he’d take questions about it:

"I’m finding it hard to control my anger with Donald Trump's response to this crisis. I have doctors and nurses and first responders begging for masks, equipment and more tests … Donald Trump promised to deliver for all the states weeks ago and so far has done very little,” he said. “This is the time for serious people, not the carnival barkers that are tweeting from the cheap seats. All I can say is get to work or get out of the way."

Asked later if Pritzker had spoken to the president or the administration about his concerns since Trump’s tweet, and he said no.

“I’ve been quite busy this afternoon. I was on the phone trying to obtain PPE from a variety of sources, some in Illinois and some from around the country and world,” said Pritzker. “So I haven’t seen what he’s responded and I haven’t responded back or had a conversation with him. Though I’m always open to a conversation that will advance the health and safety of the people of Illinois.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot responded to Trump's tweet, too, saying: "dear Lord—please step up and be a leader. While you have been yammering about hoaxes and fake news, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit all over America. @GovPritzker and others have filled this country’s leadership gap. Lead or get out of their way."

In his CNN appearance, Pritzker said he’s gotten a fraction of the masks, gloves and gowns requested from the federal government. As a result, Pritzker said he’s deployed staff to purchase supplies on the open market internationally.

“I’ve got people on the phones, working the phones across the world, frankly, to get this stuff shipped to Illinois,” Pritzker said.

Pritzker also discussed his decision to move to a stay-at-home order for Illinois residents.

“We have moved on now to a stay-at-home order,“ he said. “These should have been done nationally. They haven't been. But I have got to protect the 12.7 million people that live in my state. And I'm dedicated to that. It's their health and safety that matters most to me. It will work. It will work.“

Thank God he’s not running the other 49 states ..

One thing about this crisis, it’s unveiling the really weak leaders in public office, like Pritzker and DeBlasio

We here in Illinois call him Prickster. He is the very definition of “arrogance.” He is widely despised in Illinois, but will get re-elected anyway because of the corrupt Chicago machine.

Down-staters hate this guy. Illinois was already a complete MESS before this, thanks to Prickster and the Dem Chicago machine. Now he’s freaking out from his own incompetency. I left IL over 20 years ago, but still have family there. I don’t even recognize it when I go back, it’s sad.

SANCTUARY CITY RESULTS
Man Accused Of Raping 3-Year-Old At McDonalds Previously Arrested At Texas/Mexico Border
dfw.cbslocal.com ^ | February 28, 2020

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says a man who prosecutors allege sexually assaulted a 3-year-old girl in the stall of a McDonald’s restroom located in Chicago’s North Riverside community 600 North Clark street should have been turned over to the agency last year. Christopher Puente, 34, is charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault. Cook County prosecutors said he confessed to detectives that he’d placed the child on his lap while he was in a restroom stall, pulled off her pants, and covered her mouth when she started calling out “daddy daddy.”

The father had taken his two children to the restroom, taking his son into a stall while his daughter waited just outside in the restroom. According to prosecutors. Puente, who was in the next stall, lured the girl into his stall while her dad was preoccupied, pulled her into his lap, pulled down her pants and underwear, and sexually assaulted her.

In June 2019, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Chicago Police Department on Puente, who has several felony convictions and a prior removal, after he was arrested for theft. “How many more victims must there be before lawmakers realize that sanctuary policies do not protect the innocent?” asked Robert Guadian, field office director of Chicago Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). “Puente should have been in ICE custody last year and removed to his home country. Instead, irresponsible lawmaking allowed him to walk free and prey on our most vulnerable.”

What the in name only Democratic Party has been doing in gerrymandering remapping has been singling out areas of various districts where it is dominated by a minority and create a single district out of it which not only disrupts those districts affected of getting civic services needs but pits one group against the other. An example of this is in what Chicago did here;

CHICAGO MIDWAY AIRPORT AREA HISTORY
HOW IDENTITY POLITICS WARD RE MAPPING DESTROYED THE COMMUNITIES WITHIN

That finger of Chicago’s border on its south side extending from 51st to 65th streets 4 miles further beyond Cicero Avenue to Harlem Avenue has a very interesting history. Post WWII during the 1950’s and 60’s the area mushroomed into dozens of single dwelling subdivions where thousands of of five and more room single 1 family units were built. After a struggle by residents including this writer the area managed to get the area remapped into one ward (23rd) and only one alderman needed to respond to their needs. Today the area has four alderman including the 12th, 13th, and 14th who’s wards are spread miles apart and the reason is political because the area was conservative The same rules apply to state and congressional districts

Donald Trump promised to deliver for all the states weeks ago and so far has done very little,” he said.

Seems to me that a couple weeks ago, the media was all up in arms because Trump told them to handle it themselves.
