While some have questioned the legality of Governor Pritzker's authority to issue such a directive (not the supine news media -- of course), there is a proper and correct way to do this under Illinois law, but Governor Jabba Pritzker has bypassed some of the legal formalities. He seems content to rely upon talking points issued by Pelosi and Schumer and using every opportunity to bash Trump about COVID-19.
Consider the following summary of executive power under the Illinois Public Health laws:
Police Power & Limitations. Persons who are or are about to be ordered to be isolated or quarantined and owners of places that are or are about to be closed and made off limits to the public shall have the right to counsel. If a person or owner is indigent, the court shall appoint counsel for that person or owner. Persons who are ordered to be isolated or quarantined or who are owners of places that are ordered to be closed and made off limits to the public, shall be given a written notice of such order.
Ill. Rev. Stat. ch. 20 § 2305/2 (C)
As you can see, there are such steps as serving written notices upon affected individuals and businesses and the Department of Public Health filing for a court order and allowing opportunities for affected persons and businesses to make their case in court in opposition to closings and quarantines. Has any restaurant or bar owner received a written notice or a court hearing?
Pritzker imagines himself to be a divine right monarch.
Take it to a courtroom in a courthouse that is closed.
Governors Holcomb of Indiana and Hogan of Maryland have just issued similar orders today. Drive through and carry out sales are permitted by the IND & MD announcements.
no
Yes
Same question could be asked of Michigan’s Governor Whitmer.
I suspect there will be no enforcement of an edict requiring any ordinary businesses to close. Maybe 85% of the businesses will abide by it anyway, and most of the rest may be forced to close due to a lack of customers and/or staff.
Has Governor Pritzker exceeded his authority in closing Illinois bars and restaurants?>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yep!
But then we now get to celebrate the re-birth of the traditional Prohibition Speak-easy! So who cares?
Governors have emergency authority. Get over it.
Provide the appropriate legal citation and source of the authority. Otherwise, you are in favor of martial law.
True that. Illinois courts are closing tomorrow except for emergencies. Go figure.
Does that "emergency authority" extend to postponing elections?
IL government is going down.
They are heavily indebted and their pension funds are grossly underfunded. Weve had a mere 25% drop in the S&P and debt markets are frozen. Leftist, blue states like Illinois are in deep, deep trouble.
They should have imposed martial law in ChiTown a long time ago.. Think of all the lives that could have been saved.. and now,, it comes down to a Panderama of states Gubinors declaring we shut everything down. Oh well. There are no guarantees in life or politics when it comes to personal freedoms.

There is no Constitution when the courts are closed.
Nota bene: In terms of hypocrisy, Governor Pritzker had no problem addressing an audience of more than a thousand assembled at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois less than ten days ago. The purpose of the assembly was the annual meeting of the Illinois Education Association. All that attendees were asked to do in terms of added sanitary measures was to wash their hands, cover their coughs and use tissues for sneezes. Clorox wipes were also available in the conference room.
The second idea doesn't follow from the first. Nobody has an obligation to do your research for you. And asking somebody to go do a task for you, and then concluding that if they don't do it they are in favor of martial law is silly.
Lets try another version of your statement:
Come over and rake my leaves. Otherwise you support eating kitten stew.
See how silly that logic is?
Brown in Oregon is considering it. Never had an original tyrannical thought in her life, but sure laps them up when she hears of them.
Nice try, but I already provided a reference to the Illinois statute that applies to declaring a public health crisis necessitating business closings and quarantines. It also contained a citation as to where to find the full text of the law.
It appears that the Governor has not followed the procedures set forth in the law.
Your lame reasoning is mere sophistry.
