Telling people to remain calm and simultaneously forcing people to remain in their homes would seem to be a contradiction in messaging; potentially only worsening the panic. However, this is one of those, well, yes its unconstitutional except when . moments, that may have rather profound consequences.
The Democrat mayor of Hoboken New Jersey has announced a mandatory curfew between 10pm and 5am where all residents are not permitted to exit their residence; and all bars must close due to the coronavirus.
I dont know if this is the first mandatory coronavirus curfew, or even how such an effort could feasibly be enforced, but its likely not going to be the last:.
New Jersey 10:45pm ET Hoboken Mayor Ravinder Bhalla announced a citywide curfew will be in effect starting Monday. The curfew also places major restrictions on bars and restaurants.
The curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m.- 5 a.m.starting on Monday, and until further notice. Residents will be required to stay home, except for emergencies, or if needed at work by their employer.
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, bars that do not serve food will not be permitted to operate at all. All other bars and restaurants are no longer permitted to serve food within the establishment, and can only sell takeout or delivery. (read more)

Quite a bit of news for a Saturday night. Portends for a rough week ahead.
Yeah, I’m not doing that. They can shoot me if they need to.
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, bars that do not serve food will not be permitted to operate at all
(St Pat’s Day - best day of the year..)
The reason behind this is the tendency for the virus to hit the bars every night. Does it have a problem with alcohol? Next you will have to surrender all your firearms.
And this will accomplish exactly what?
... except maybe divert attention away from good News coming out of China and Trump’s great response.
Nightime curfew won’t make a difference...
Martial Law.. anyone?!
DEFCON Level: Plaid?
You can identify a Progtard DildoCrat because their thoughts and actions will consistently be:
1. Unconstitutional
2. Stupid
Well if people stay home that won’t be necessary.
The mayor must be infected with the CCP’s authoritarian virus.
I don’t see how this helps. Late night is a good time to visit businesses when there are fewer people around to contract the virus from. Plus, what of the people who work those hours regularly? Too bad?
This is one of those ideas that sounds good to a bureaucrat but, effectively, does nothing positive.
The ultimate irony is that Mayor Ravinder ‘crap for brains’ Bhalla is listed on his web page as a civil rights lawyer.
Yes, you’re only supposed to spread it during the day.
This has nothing to do with the spread of the coronavirus. He is simply using the virus as an excuse to take away people’s freedoms.
I am repeating this same thing on every thread. They are trying to kill the economy. If this keeps up, it will work. The House Bill will do nothing to help all the bartenders, service employees, small business owners, small business employees, movie theaters, broadway you name it all will be economically hurt, and these kinds of ideas will make them hurt even more.
What does a 10pm-5am curfew accomplish anyway? Disease spreads between 5am and 10pm too, no?
Trump had the right idea - not perfect, but on the right track - to declare a tax holiday. A tax credit isnt going to help any business that will not make a profit to apply the credit this year because of all the paranoia keeping people from going out and all these new emergency actions to shutter or limit business activity. It isnt going to help keep people employed esp hourly workers, sales people, independent operators and people who depend on tips. If this keeps up, businesses (esp small businesses) are going to cut hours or do layoffs. Even if it is just for 4-8 weeks, it will do a lot of harm.
Notice these cities did not declare a rent restriction or a mortgage payment restriction or an electric bill restriction. Everyones gotta keep paying their bills while the cities and states are shutting everyone down. Its an economic disaster in the wings.
And fwiw, this also means that deficits are going to jump across the board - city, state, federal. Much lower income tax revenue. Much lower payroll tax revenue. Much lower sales tax revenue. Much lower capital gains (stock market) tax revenue. Were gonna have higher deficits no matter what we do - at least a tax holiday will keep a little more money inside the local economies, improve cash flows a little bit for the small business, and prevent the local economies from totally freezing up.
Oh, dear - a tight curfew and bar closings just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. This one could be fun.
for communities that pull this BS, no govt bailout when tax revenues crater.
“As of 11 a.m. Sunday, bars that do not serve food will not be permitted to operate at all.” Not just at night daytime as well for Bars with non food items.
Maybe you can not be infected if you have alcohol in your system.
Lets see if they shutter liquor stores.
