Going Downhill, Fast

People’s sheeple mentality is so predictable. And nobody knows how to weaponize this built in glitch better than Democrats, as Roger Kimball reminds us:

The Wuhan Panic is a textbook case of the Rahm Emanuel principle that you never want a good crisis to go to waste. Emanuel helped Barack Obama weaponize the government against freedom in the aftermath of the financial meltdown of 2008. The Dems and their megaphones in the media are trying to do the same thing now in the face of the spread of the Wuhan Virus. In about three weeks, maybe four, it will all be over and many people will feel sheepish about their overreaction. In the meantime, everyone seems to be signing up to be an extra in The Seventh Seal.

The stock market is collapsing, paper products of all sort have virtually disappeared from store shelves along with hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and face masks.

Well done, but don’t stop there!

This week administrative and elected leaders everywhere have discovered their inner autocrat and began closing or cancellation everything from school concerts to major league sports. If you don’t believe me check your email. I’ve received messages from every organization that has ever had my email address telling me what extraordinary measures they are taking to protect me, including closing venues and cancelling events. And of course every communique ends up by telling me to wash my hands. By the time this is over we will all be OCD.

Here in Utah the governor has called for the cancellation of all gatherings over 100 people. I don’t even think that’s constitutional but we’ve been conditioned to not question our overlords.

“Today we stopped making decisions based on the hope that things will get better,” Herbert said in announcing the voluntary guideline.

Senior centers, arts venues, the Utah State Prison and others are closing access or canceling events — adding to a snowball of announcements that began with the NBA suspending its season this week…” – SLT

I read that as “Today we stopped making decisions based on common sense and rational thinking.”

I need a break from this sheeple mentality so we’re going skiing. Plenty of fresh air and sunshine - and you get to choose your own course down the mountain.

When was the last time that Baseball, Football, Basketball, Soccer, and motor sports worldwide have all cancelled their events at the same time?

When was the last time amusement parks, theaters, home and garden shows, auto shows, and conventions have all closed down at the same time?

When was the last time the United States closed down its borders to almost all foreign travel?

Never.

Either there is mass hysteria overtaking the entire world, or there’s more to this Coronavirus than they are telling us.

I pray it’s the former.

Well, that's not entirely true. All air travel was closed down in the aftermath of 9/11.

“The Wuhan Panic is a textbook case of the Rahm Emanuel principle that you never want a good crisis to go to waste.”

This is why the Gov is so powerful.

Whenever there is a crisis, the gov avoids blame and accountability, and says “we could have prevented this if only we had more funding.”

Then it gets the funding and a new department.

And grows.

Yeah but school went on, businesses didn't close outside the affected area and the stock market didn't crash at the same % loss as it has.

Overreaction or appropriate reaction, this is different and hasn't been seen before.

These comparisons to earlier, less contagious diseases are

not really relevant. There is plenty of information about

the CV, just research it.

Taking public health advise from someone who is dying of

the “country’s most preventable disease” is pretty

dumb.

Spot on. The government is on a sustained growth path yet it is rarely, if ever, proactive, efficient or responsive in terms of the services that it supposedly provides the citizenry. And its NEVER accountable.

Truth be known most agencies and departments are bureaucratic empires that are focused on maintaining their own power. The number one priority is protecting and expanding itself.

That is a fact! The media always supports and defends a Democrat administration and always attacks a Republican one. The media dosen’t even bother to hide their extreme bias anymore. They are all in on advancing the liberal agenda and there is no limit on how far they will go to do it.

This is a textbook case of the vaunted "Rahm Emanuel principle" that you never let a good crisis go to waste.
Obama weaponized the government in the aftermath of the financial meltdown of 2008.

Obama had inside help-----Emanuel was Obama's COS AND he placed Rahm in control of the US Treasury. Read on.

"Mr President, you are now in complete control of the US Treasury."

==========================================

THE SMOKING GUN---WSJ REPORT--On Jan 20, 2009 Timothy Geithner was appointed Obama's Secy of the Treasury. But within three weeks, the Obama White House tightened its grip on Treasury. Obama put his COS, Rahm Emanuel, in charge of Treasury---Rahm Emanuel's dual role was an unusual move. When he got to Treasury, WH COS Rahm Emanuel was so involved in the inner workings that the phrase "Rahm wants it" had become an unofficial mantra among subservient govt staffers, prostrate in obeisance, scurrying to accede to Rahm's wishes, according to Treasury government officials.

CIRCA 2009 EXCERPT---FOURTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS Behind The Real Size of the Obama Bailout;
A guide to the abbreviations, acronyms, and obscure programs that make up the $14 trillion federal bailout of Wall Street
SOURCE motherjones.com --- Mon Dec. 21, 2009 12:23 PM PST

The $787 billion TARP--the Troubled Assets Relief Program---is just the best known program in an array of more than 30 overseen by Treasury Department and Federal Reserve that have paid out or put aside untraceable money to bail out financial firms and inject money into the markets. (To get a sense of the size of the real $14 trillion bailout, see MJ chart at web site).

A guide to the pieces of the puzzle includes massive untraceable Treasury Department bailout programs.
Money Market Mutual Fund: In September 2008, the Treasury controlled by Obama/Emanuel announced that it would insure the holdings of publicly offered money market mutual funds. According to the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), these guarantees could have potentially cost the federal government more than $3 trillion [PDF].

Public-Private Investment Fund: This joint Treasury-Federal Reserve program bought toxic assets from banks and brokerages—as much as $5 billion of assets per firm. According to SIGTARP, the government's potential exposure from the PPIF is between $500 million and $1 trillion [PDF].

TARP: As part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the Treasury controlled by Obama/Emanuel made loans to or investments more than 750 banks and financial institutions. $650 billion has been paid out (not including HAMP; see below). As of December 21, 2009, $117.5 billion of that has been repaid.

Government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) stock purchase: The Treasury controlled by Obama/Emanuel bought $200 million in preferred stock from Fannie Mae and another $200 million from Freddie Mac [PDF] to show that they "will remain viable entities critical to the functioning of the housing and mortgage markets."

GSE mortgage-backed securities purchase: Under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, the Treasury controlled by Obama/Emanuel may buy mortgage-backed securities from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. According to SIGTARP, these purchases could cost as much as $314 billion

When the flu virus is airborne and is 10-30 times more deadly than the current flu strains, yes, probably.

Flu deaths in the US during the 2017-2018 flu season totalled 61,000

I will bet big money that the total deaths from this years flu season PLUS all the coronavirus deaths ends up being LESS than that !!

YES! I am saying the TOTAL of the TWO this year will be less! and I will donate $100 to Free Republic if I am wrong.

I pray it’s the former.

I suspect it is the latter, or Trump wouldn't have climbed on board. Covid-19 probably a bio-weapon that escaped a lab before the counter to it was perfected.

Well this is not sheeple mentality. This is your federal government, President Trump, working behind the scenes and making sure these things are shutdown. No sports league would voluntarily forgo billions of dollars in revenue if they were't told to do so. It looks better and helps to avoid panic if they announce it themselves.

Or course we get tradeoffs...morons who think it's some kind of overblown conspiracy.

Is this what we are going to do now every time there is another flu season?

Whoever you are listening to telling you this is just a "flu" has got you not looking at what's going on all around you. The government is shutting down the country to prevent the spread of this. The government...in fact ALL governments everywhere...are reacting as if it's much more than the flu.
