Tucker Carlson Tells The Hard Truth [COVID19]
American Conservative ^ | March 9, 2020 | Rod Dreher

Posted on 03/10/2020 6:16:37 AM PDT by C19fan

This is a hugely important opening monologue from Tucker Carlson tonight — especially for conservatives, but actually for everybody. And most of all, for that Fox News watcher in the White House. Straight-up truth-telling right here:

He criticizes unnamed “leaders” for downplaying the virus’s seriousness, but we all know he’s talking about Donald Trump. Look at this: same administration, same day:

“Trump is losing the election right before my eyes ... “

Wait, what? I like Carlson, I watched last night, and my gut reaction after watching that monologue was to run to the store, buy whatever I could, get more ammo, and quit my job. Then I thought about it. And oddly enough, Hannity came on, and sounded like the reasonable measured person between Hannity and Carlson.

I don’t know what more President Trump is supposed to do? Incite panic? Cure it himself? Lockdown the world?

This is a nasty bug. You get these things when the massive population of the world becomes so interconnected. Thank God that it doesn’t seem to be as dangerous to the young. I’m over 60, reasonably healthy, but still in the high risk group. My view is that this is something that we can’t stop. All we can do is take care of our hygiene, and avoid diverse groups, (hey, diversity can kill you).

Concern is warranted. Taking prudent actions is required. Fear, panic, blaming without cause, just stokes the chaos.

You are as prognosticator of hype and fear without foundation. Trump will win in a landslide against any Democrat opponent. The Covid 19 virus is being handled as best can be done considering it is a virus that is like no other seen before albeit far less lethal than what the “chicken littles” would have you believe. If you are in the high risk group follow the best practices recommended by CDC.

Good for Tucker.

This is a disaster and the President better get his ass in

gear or he is going to be the Jimmy Carter of the GOP. We

are now facing an epidemic with a financial meltdown. The

time for golf is over.

This is a geriatric problem first and foremost.

But...but...I'm in the geriatric age group, you cold hearted...

And I'm a physician. What am I supposed to do? Call in sick everyday until I retire? Hold my breath all day long?

Please, if anyone is still talking about Wuhan by November... then its an issue.

Reality is, the infection rates, are slowing... yes there are hot spots.. like any disease, but overall the infection and death rates are slowing.... Went from doubling ever 2 days to doubling every 3 days.

No its not over, but its not the end of the world either.

Look, if Wuhan was the end of days, you would find the infection rates on these cruise ships at insane levels, and they are not.... Is it serious? Yes, if you get it and are one of the unfortunate people in the 15% or so who get it and have a serious case, it can be a very big deal.. but 85% or so of cases are insanely mild.

This shouldn’t be talked down, but it also should not be hysterically talked up, which is what the media is doing... whipping everyone into a frenzy over something that has resulted in a whopping 4k deaths worldwide, in the same time that about 10,000 people have died of the flu in the US alone.

Agreed. Panic makes you stupid, and is contagious. No one can stop a virus dead in its tracks, but a little common sense preparation and changes in day-to-day routine and behavior can increase one’s chances of coming through an epidemic//pandemic unscathed. But trying to pin the spread of a virus on POTUS is asinine, and a symptom of the real threat to the country, which is uncontrolled, irrational fear.

Yeah, well I criticize Tucker Carlson for instilling unwarranted panic upon the millions of people watching his show. Stupid pampered pussy.

“And I’m a physician. What am I supposed to do? Call in sick everyday until I retire? Hold my breath all day long? “

Versus hacking and wheezing over already sick patients, I’d say any of those alternatives would be a preferable option.

Market is up 1000 points...

MSM will shred Trump no matter if he cures it himself.

However, I think Tucker’s exposure of the % of our strategic meds being made in China is a winning issue for Trump. Tucker is either right about the other, or he’s really jumped the shark.

I think the most important point is that we need to bring production of our essential products back here - and never should have let this situation arise in the first place.

Trump wasn’t responsible for that, and I trust him to rectify it more than I trust any of the establishment politicians - both sides - who put us into this situation.

Tucker isn’t telling any intelligent person anything they haven’t already surmised; I’d rather take my cues from experts in various fields than from someone who makes his living bloviating.

He is right.

The oil melt down is caused by falling prices. Falling

prices are caused by lack of future demand because of

corona-virus. If the energy sector falls, it will spread

to the financial sector and then we are in trouble.

A 1,000 point rebound on a 2,000 point collapse is not

sustainable. The President must get engaged. A payroll

tax is always great — but, this will require more.

There is little doubt that this virus is here and will take a toll on vulnerable Americans. Vulnerable individuals will contract this virus and some will die until an effective, safe , widely available vaccine is available.

However it should be understood that the vast majority of the American population is not likely to become seriously ill or die. The people most at risk for serious disease are Asians, elderly people with underlying serious medical conditions especially pulmonary disease and the immunosuppressed.

It is important to know the race, age and underlying medical condition of those becoming seriously ill and dying. The region in Italy where the outbreak has occurred and is most affected is densely populated with Chinese immigrants and Asian workers. It also has a disproportional population of elderly people given the low Italian birthrate. It must also be understood that Iran, the other “hotspot” has a huge Asian presence in its population’s genome. The Silk Road and innumerable Chinese caravans transversed Iran and the Mongols conquered Iran. Southeastern Iran is largely Asia.

Its politically incorrect to note that most Caucasians and Africans unless frail elderly or immunosuppressed when “infected” and testing “positive” for this virus are not likely to become seriously ill or die. The CDC and WHO have data based on race but have not released it. Clearly hard data is necessary to alleviate panic ( which of course serves the political interests of many) and to properly allocate resources and concentrate efforts in vulnerable communities.
