Gabbard Qualifies for Next Democratic Debate [semi-satire]

Since Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii) won a delegate from Samoa on Super Tuesday, she now meets the current requirements laid out by the Democratic National Committee for candidates to be included in the next debate.

However, DNC communications director Xochitl Hinojosa announced Tuesday night that "we are upping the requirements going forward. The inclusion of Rep. Gabbard at this stage is not in the best interests of the Party. All the top people have determined that it is best that everyone get behind former Vice-President Joe Biden as our nominee. Allowing Gabbard back in at this late date is incompatible with that objective."

"Ideally, we would also appreciate it if Sen. Sanders were to fall in line, as Warren, Klobuchar, Buttigieg, Steyer, and Bloomberg already have," she added. "Since he has hundreds of delegates, though, we can't plausibly concoct requirements that would deny him the opportunity to continue his campaign. We are just hoping that he will be sensible. He can throw a few bones to his supporters for the next couple of weeks, but sooner or later he has got to realize that his responsibility to the Party is greater than his desire to be president. I'm confident that an amenable deal to achieve unanimous backing for Biden can be had if the price is right."

In related news, Bloomberg took issue with pundits' conclusions that his failed bid for the presidency proves the office can't be bought. "I realize that I can't buy it for myself, but my success in buying the Virginia legislature for the Democrats in 2019 shows I can buy it for someone else," he contended. "I was perceived as arrogant and selfish for spending hundreds of millions on my own campaign. However, I think I will be perceived more favorably as a benefactor of others in our Party's quest to oust Trump from office."

Maybe “DeezNuts” can qualify. In 2015 he would have met the qualifications:

“News broke this week that an independent presidential candidate going by the name of “Deez Nuts” is polling at 9 percent in the latest PPP poll from North Carolina — after posting similar numbers in PPP polls of Minnesota (8 percent) and Iowa (7 percent).

According to a Federal Elections Commission filing, Mr. Nuts hails from Wallingford, Iowa. An email address on the website deeznutsforpresident2016.yolasite.com led Rolling Stone to a person who purports to be the suddenly famous Mr. Nuts, and answered our questions in writing. (He declined to speak to Rolling Stone over the phone.)”

You ask: “What’s a Xochitl?”

I think Xochitl may be the Aztec god of human sacrifice.

The Mayan God of Corn (Note: Corn introduced periodontal gum disease among the smart little Mayans which caused their untimely demise circa 1400 AD. Norte Amercianos are repeating this apocalypse by feasting on nachos, fritos and other corn products.
