I am in mourning. Although I should be retiring "high on the hog," so to speak, my heart breaks for students who have no clue and have been spoon-fed so much that they do not know basic multiplicaiton facts, choose not tp follow rules, and cannot follow simple directions. It's as though they expect all to be given to them. And if they do not get their way, I am to blame.
With those ^ sentiments shared, I AM looking forward to being "Granny," spending time with our three adult children and their spouses, and hiking, camping, and trout-fishing with my husband.
It’s 12:01 AM here. I am in mourning, too.
Would like your thoughts on how we got from point A to point B in the way of cogitational alacrity.
I taught for about as long. Despite what many here believe, there are teachers who do in fact care about their kids and do despair at what is happening to the current crop.
I believe that we got a better education than we were able to give to our students, but that we did a better job than the teachers now are able to provide. For some reason, education willingly abandons what has been shown to work in order to try something newthat doesn’t work as well as what it replaced.
Enjoy your grandlings.
Oh. My. I certainly hope you haven’t “chugabrew” too many!
Or maybe too few?
LOL
Why does your heart break for the given over? Rejoice in the certainty they will soon get the society for which they clamor. Pain, sorrow, suffering and deprivation are coming their way hard.
If they blame you tell them it makes you beam with pride.
You did your best. That’s all you could do in a faulty system. Enjoy your retirement and pray for those young people who passed through your life those many years.
Ha! I regret that you were not my teacher, insofar as you recognize the difference between excellence and mediocrity. I surmise your leaving the field is met with considerable stress and emotion. Thank you for being there to the extent you were able, and enjoy the days ahead.
Uhhmmm... Seems your clarity of thought from point A to point B may be hampered by your “chugabrew.”
Or perhaps you are a smart-a&& wanna-be...
GO AWAY.
Oh. No. Your last comment pinged my heartstring.
Thank you.
And I apologize for my snippy retort.
Congratulations, enjoy your retirement, Id say you earned it.
Stay informed and keep educating, even if in a different arena!
If you missed being yelled at by people who should appreciate your work with their children you can always come on here and talk about vaccinations, Q, the War Between the States, Movie stars, pop culture, etc. and someone (many) will be glad to remind you what its like!
Thank you.
I pray daily for my students - even those who p*ss me off.
someone (many) will be glad to remind you what its like!

Exactly why I mostly lurk...
Lot’s of learning though.
I would have given that essay an F.
They may not know reading and math but they have learned the hatred of America!!
You can start with child care. You know those great places where parents drop off their infants for 9 or 10 hours a day. They have all kinds of play toys outside with no kids on them. They share their lunches with other kids that know nothing so they learn nothing. I guess I shouldnt get started on the next stage.
Sounds like you had a great career; i too retired last year and it is great to get up at 8, I have spent the last 3 months on vacation in europe on the cheap, it is the greatest thing ever to not worry about work. You enjoy it, it is well deserved, do not mourn but embrace this new phase, good luck with the trout.
.....” it is the greatest thing ever to not worry about work”....
Cheers to that! I love it!...Complete control of your time and where you want to spend it, no accountability to anyone. A chance to investigate new interests....It’s just wonderful! Even day trips are great!
It’s a different life for sure....it took me a little time to get my bearings and some I have worked with gradually slipped away. But once your realize you are in charge and there’s ventures ahead of you for the taking everything seems to fall into place.
