The number of people applying to be cops in Montgomery County, Maryland, has dropped by half in recent years, according to a department complaint last week. Officials suggest it's because of growing national skepticism toward policing.
"When you do a job that's being highly criticized on a daily basis, we have to ask ourselves, how do we find good candidates that really want to be under that type of scrutiny," said Acting Police Chief Marcus Jones.
Montgomery County won't have an easy time importing its officers from other communities, either. Recruitment of law enforcement officers is down in areas around the country, and the drop in numbers is stark.

In a strong economy police forces have to compete to get qualified candidates.
In addition, in Montgomery County the lefty pols do _not_ have their back. Think of it as The Ferguson Effect having an impact on recruitment as well as police performance.

Being a cop to day is to look at a career were every move is high risk of being career ending, where every move is GPS tracked, where every move is video taped and subject to after the fact interpretation of whether you violated an ever-changing expectation of unwritten standards.This is the same standard Democrats want to impose on everyone.

Had a neighbor was who was an ATF agent. He said Moose had a very good idea who was behind this. The snipers might have done similar shootings in the Northwest so they were under suspicion. They were casing the house he was renting in Gainesville VA. (Have a friend in this neighborhood who said this was true) and his ex-wife’s house in Clinton. And this idiot had us freaking out over white vans.
Finally a rouge cop put the car description out and they were quickly caught.
Combine this with Bammy’s war on cops, Baltimore mayor’s “Give them room to riot” and sanctuary city law in MC, who in their right mind would want to be a cop around here when they know the local government is not on your side.
Also, went to the sanctuary city protest in Rockville after all the sexual assaults here by illegals this summer. As we were thanking the cops, they were thanking us.

I’d say there are WAY far less corrupt cops then corrupt politician!
I am a retired law-enforcement sergeant, so I speak from a position of first-hand knowledge.
Before the whole anti-cop movement started gaining traction I always believed that we were quite often our own worst enemy.
I was constantly telling my subordinates to handle their business in a manner that was beyond reproach. It doesn’t diminish your law-enforcement capability to behave in a manner that is professional and reflects well on the dept. you represent.
Too many people saw that uniform as a ticket to do things that were no better than the criminals we were tasked with stopping.
That being said, it warms my heart to hear stories of officers doing things like buying infant formula or groceries for people of the community who needed it most. Those guys and gals get it.
This is the same standard Democrats want to impose on everyone.
You are correct. It is where the trend lines are headed.
It will be a place with very little liberty, except for those who are self employed or of independent means.
