Report: Protective Masks Are Useless – Coronavirus Also Spreads Through The EYES

As infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists race to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus centered on Wuhan, China, they’re getting back up that’s been possible only since the explosion in genetic technologies: a deep-dive into the DNA of the virus known as 2019-nCoV.

Analyses of the viral genome are already providing clues to the origins of the outbreak and even possible ways to treat the infection, a need that is becoming more urgent by the day: Early on Saturday in China, health officials reported 15 new fatalities in a single day, bringing the death toll to 41. There are now nearly 1,100 confirmed cases there.

More bad news came in as expert claimes that deadly coronavirus can be spread through the EYES after he contracted the disease, despite wearing a protective mask.

Good luck finding any in stock. I found a box of 20 yesterday at home depot in the paint department. A medical supply store was out but was willing to order some. When I got the box at home depot I called and cancelled the other order. Freepers tend to worry early... so my guess is there's still time. I also got two pairs of goggles. When we had the SARS threat some years back my local pharmacist told me doctors had written massively large prescriptions orders (for their own families - - for anti-virus medicines) and that there would be NONE available for the general population. He was obviously pissed off about the situation.

“Hazmat suit”

For those of you who don’t know, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security defines a hazmat suit as “an overall garment worn to protect people from hazardous materials or substances, including chemicals, biological agents, or radioactive materials.” Hazmat protection is rated from Level A to Level D.

At the highest Level A, the worker is essentially sealed in a gas-tight, vapor-tight, and splash-resistant suit with a positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and chemical-resistant inner and outer gloves. Even the shoes are important as protective boots and shoes are sometimes an overlooked component for worker safety. Improper hazmat footwear can allow toxic materials to penetrate, puncture, or cause a worker to slip and possibly damage his suit.

Probably the main problem product is clorine gas as it is hard to contain. And no antidote exists for chlorine exposure. Treatment consists of removing the chlorine from the body as soon as possible and providing supportive medical care such as inhaled breathing treatments for wheezing in a hospital setting. Moderate exposure can create breathing problems, eye burning, fluid in the lungs, nausea and vomiting, and dangerous life threatening effects with greater exposure.

Far UVC light as a sterilant is relatively new. This can be used in the presence of humans without dangerous side effects. Much more effective than prior UV lamps—requires seconds of exposure versus an hour.

The scare stories are spreading faster than the virus - i saw one that said it had a 83% spread rate and 15% mortality rate....
It spreads about the same as the Flu and hasn’t been killing at a much higher rate ... so far ... and I haven’t seen stats on those who have died yet - age/general health, etc.

I wonder how much it would burn nasal passages considering how much it burns the mouth and tongue. Anyone know if nasal irrigation with a diluted oregano oil solution is safe?

How long can the virus stay in the air? Does gravity affect it?

Yeah I didn’t think that would be ok with the sensitive mucous membranes and the burning sensation oregano oil causes.

Well, since we’re talking alternative self-remedies, there are ‘popular’ uses for hydrogen peroxide. One of our FReepers suggests applying slightly diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide to the very outside edge of the nostrils, at the first sign of cold or ‘flu. Others suggest putting a few drops in the ears.

Then there is this (I’m not a doctor or scientist, and don’t know whether this is safe, or safe for everyone, and haven’t tried it yet; but it is apparently in wide use):
