A Butler County girl currently fighting cancer received the surprise of her life courtesy of the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
Naomi Short, 8, was surprised this weekend when she got to meet and ride a unicorn.
The animal, named Anna Marie, is part of the Sheriff's Office's mounted patrol.
"I'm obsessed with unicorns," she said. "I've always wanted to meet a real unicorn in real life. It was so pretty and magical."
Short was diagnosed with stage 4 pineoblastoma, a rare brain cancer, in October.
The sweet but sassy third-grader just completed radiation and starts chemotherapy Friday at Children's Hospital.
"I'm kicking cancer's freaking butt," she said. "I'll kick it right in its hiney."
Her mother, Melissa Short, said lighthearted moments and special surprises help take her daughter's mind off cancer.
"It at least takes our mind off things even if it's just for 10 minutes," she said. "We don't know how chemo or treatment is gonna react. With all the unknowns it's scary to think about."
Short said deputies treated Naomi like a queen during her unicorn surprise. Naomi's parents call her a "princess warrior" and said she is a fighter.
Meeting a unicorn was the first thing Naomi could cross off her "bucket list."
"I wanna go to Disney World. I want to go to Hollywood and get a picture in front of the real Hollywood sign," she said. The 8-year-old also wants to go on the Ellen Show, experience a "boy crush," go to a concert and meet a professional wrestler.
In the meantime, she is using her time to help other sick children and launched a toy drive to donate to Children's Hospital. If you would like to donate a new toy you can find donation information on Naomi's Facebook page.
The Sheriff's Office also gave Naomi toys donated by employees for her toy drive.
"I always served God, and I always will," she said. "Lord please help me through all this, and take all this pain away from me."
She also says she is thankful for the surprise from Butler County deputies and everything the community has done for her.
"Without my family and everyone in the city helping me then I don't think I would be able to get through this," Naomi said.
Naomi's family is struggling to pay for her treatments. So far, more than $20,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe page set up to help with Naomi's medical expenses.

Prayers to her and her family.
I have done work with Childrens Hospice Intl. since 1989 and it never gets any easier.
Wasn’t sure if I should repost this article since its already been posted but I have been praying for this girl daily lately as she is still going through a real up hill battle with cancer. Just want to refresh the awareness and need for prayer to maybe include Naomi in your prayers since many of us are praying more these days anyway.
