The end of 2019 brings some grim news for Hollywood bean counters.
The years box office tally came in roughly 4 percent lower than 2018. Thats the sharpest decline in 5 years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
With Dec. 31 fast approaching, industry leader Comscore projected Sunday that box office revenue in North America will hit $11.45 billion for the full year, a decline of 3.6 percent from 2018s record bounty of $11.88 billion.
Will 2020 offer a Hollywood-style comeback? We wont know for another 12 months, but the early signs are ominous.
Consider 2019 featured not one but two films capping epic franchises. Avengers: Endgame certainly delivered on its promise, both creatively and commercially. The film, tying up loose ends from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), became the highest grossing movie of all time.

They should have made more of those Environmental Disaster movies they could have made Trillions to save the Planet ,LOL
Obviously, Hollywood isn’t making enough movies that carry a strong SJW message that jams left-wing talking points down the throats of the audience.
Also, they should further dumb down their product, and make more “re-boots” of TV shows from the 1970s.
I actually prefer to watch movies at home, unless it is a 3D sort of must see.
Modern 4k sets and decent surround systems are changing the whole thing. Also, Movies are having to compete with all sorts of other entertainment.
This same thing happened to “live music” venues. For movies to get watched, they need to have a good story, even for younger viewers. At least they need that more than they used to. And the quality of original stuff on Netflix and Amazon prime, et al are also having an impact.
Clearly they need to double down on the themes of preaching, scolding, and woke-ness. And keep on doubling down until the masses learn to love them.
Ya , going to the Theater is so last century
It is my experience that directors have bombarded the audience with sound amplified beyond reasonable level of decibels.
Please refrain from abusing the news forum with blog material.
And showing pictures of that scowling Thunberg on the screen, that would draw in crowds. /s
Liked the Richard Jewell movie.
Passed on everything else.
I saw two movies at theaters this year. Granted, I’m retired so me and my BFFs of 40 years go during daylight hours, but on both occasions, we four were THE ONLY ONES IN THE THEATER!
We saw the ‘Queen’ bio, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (really good!) and ‘Knives Out,’ also really good.
So, Hollywood got exactly $16 out of my pocket this season; Thanks, Senior Discount, LOL!
I’m MORE than happy to wait to borrow movies from the Library, which I already pay for with my Tax Dollars.
Why would any American want to be anywhere near the people that occupy this former Nation?
Malls, Theatres, Bowling Allies, Bars, Sporting Events, Concerts, any place where you might have to rub elbows with filthy foreigners or scum democrats should all burn to the ground!

LOL!
Use her face on a dancing Hot Dog singing, “Let’s All Go To The Lobby...”
I want to see ‘Jewel,’ too - but I’ll wait for the DVD.
I’ll say The Joker was superb, and I really want to see Jewel and 1917.
All they need to do is Start Burning the American Flag while they give their I Hate America speeches.
Yes, and more CGI of Global Warming and stuff.
Richard Jewell is a must see. I would not waste my time or money on anything else.

The good news is that I didn’t need my hearing aids to hear the dialogue clearly. :)
I took my hearing aids (amplifiers) out and it was still uncomfortable
