For every action there is a consequence, and Democrats in congress and running for the presidency are feeling the consequences of their zeal to impeach President Donald Trump this weekend. Lets use Twitter to illustrate:
President Trump traveled to New York on Saturday to witness the grand annual football clash between Army and Navy. There, he met players and coaches from both teams prior to the contest, signed an executive order allowing players from military academies to immediately pursue professional sports careers upon graduating, received a rousing ovation from everyone in the stadium when he was introduced, and performed the coin toss while wearking a red Keep America Great cap.

He went to Philadelphia; not New York City.
How do you immediately Pursue professional sports when you got your 200k education for free and in return for 5 years service. Explain.
Just reread. He will allow them to delay service. It’s wrong. So you can make money get injured and then then be excluded from service. What about baseball players, mml lacrosse players, nba? Does that count
Not an NFL fan so I cant remember the specifics but IIRC there was a West Point Quarterback in the late 50s/early 60s timeframe who everyone thought would have a great career in the NFL who was not allowed to pursue it. Some have lamented this loss for decades. Sounds like Trump is trying to rectify this wrong.
$200k is chump change. The clubs can pay it back. Even steven. The military gets free publicity. Win win.
Its human nature to take advantage. I knew of an anesthesiologist who was not overweight but when they started cracking down and throwing people out this West Pointer who owed 12 years for West Point AND Medical School purposefully gained 100 pounds specifically to get out. It worked and in 6 months he lost the weight.
IIRC David Robinson played NBA right out of Naval Acamdemy and Chad Hennings did played in NFL pretty quickly as did Roger Staubach.
Repaying is not the point. I know west pointers and relative a general taught at WP. Counsin Annapolis grad
Many of these black football players don’t have the grades. They get in through the prep program. So that’s 5 years. They should not take the spot of someone who want the education and served.
That’s disgusting.
Yeah. I was surprised that a guy like that, who would do that, could even get into West Point. It wasnt like no one knew what he was up to he openly admitted what he was doing eating Twinkies non stop. It was also kind of surprising they let him get away with it but then do you really want some one who would do that?
I presume the question is why do you get to leave the military after not paying back the cost of your scholarship?
The reason is fairly easy to comprehend, the sports man gave much more than a few measly hundred thousand dollars by playing for the school for free. In the long run it will make the academy teams competitive with other schools and they will have more people wanting to go to them. The schools will win lucrative Television contracts that will completely offset the cost of the student scholarship.
Is it wrong to postpone service, or it is great marketing for the military and for the service academies, well worth the loss of one officer serving on active duty? This may be a good call.
Roger Staubach fulfilled his Navy commitment before playing a down for Dallas. (4 yrs)
That may have been the case I was recalling.
The average NFL career lasts 3.4 years.

...
You nailed it.
Theres always a few out there like you who get annoyed that athletes do not fill the true mission of the academies. This will affect only a handful of cadets across the three academies. There are still, height, weight and commissioning standards to consider at appointment. But the few who can play in professional sports should be able to. The publicity far outweighs the negatives. The academies are on TV almost every weekend. Wonderful PR for the missions of each institution.
Nope Henninger and Robinson served out their commitment too.
