Literally no one, NO ONE should be a billionaire
The Week ^ | June 2019 | Jeff Spros

"Does anyone deserve to have a billion dollars?" That's one of the questions The New York Times recently put to the avalanche of candidates coming for the Democratic party’s presidential nomination in 2020. A few of them, and not necessarily the most left-wing ones, offered a squishily-philosophic no. "I'm not sure anybody cosmically or morally deserves to have a billion dollars," as South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg put it. Others were more positive: John Hickenlooper, the former governor of Colorado, thinks the aspiration to make a billion dollars "drives a lot of our economy." One thing just about everyone agreed on was that the existence of billionaires is offensive in the context of a society also beset by inequality, poverty and deprivation of opportunity. "It's a question that isn't meaningful outside its moorings," as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) put it.

I don’t think drugs can do everything - or do everything safely.

A cure for cancer is probably going to wind up being a combination of lifestyle adjustments and nutrition, as well as drugs.

(Research on low-carb and Ketogenic diets has suggested that they work for lots of people. And they aren’t that difficult to stick with. A lot of people are already making a lot of money promoting these - but nobody is going to find a pill that obviates the need for the effort involved in personal change and commitment.)

It’s always been my position, that as the left has been clamoring for a clean replacement for fossil fuels, the person who invents that new energy source deserves to be the first trillionaire.

Politicians..going in with some money and coming out with millions..maybe billions....ain't earning it.

They are selling their positions...and giving OUR money to who ever wants to bribe them...

That's how plenty of Pols..have done it..The Clinton's the Obama's..in recent memory...

.They ought to be charged...but I doubt they will be...

No one on the Right side is going to touch the Obama's...unless they are willing to have chaos in the inner cities...

That would mean Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and 150 other companies would lay off thousands or not be in business at all. How do you go about taking ones fortune? Who determines how much “enough” is?

Never mind. These questions are of little importance seeing as how today’s millennial doesn’t know or care in the 1st place. It’s just unfair they have all that money...that’s all!!!

I get this feeling from the Democrats that they have distaste and jealousy for Trump going INTO the Presidency with billions of dollars, not coming OUT of it with money instead.

Nobody DESERVES to have a billion dollars or zero dollars.

I’ve known many brilliant, hard-working people fall by the side and dumb, lucky people get rich.

then I’ve also seen dumb, lucky people get unlucky and poor and brilliant, hard-working people get rich.

We don’t DESERVE a billion dollars or DESERVE a nice car, home etc. - we need to be humble and thankful for what we have - we can work harder and be smarter and increase our chances for being rich, but it’s not a guarantee and it’s not something to say “I deserve this”

But that’s not the answer the leftists want...

The next question I would have asked would have been “Do you think it is okay for someone to have a job where they get $400,000 a year plus $170,000 a year in travel and entertainment expenses? AND - they can screw things up at work so badly that people die, but can only be fired if they do something illegal?”

When one remains in fellowship with God, it is amazing how many things which “Should be” actually are in effect, except for those who arrogantly believe they “should be” the ones whose volition is allowed to prevail.

The prospect of a billion dollars motivates people to take enormous steps to improve humanity. Waltons have made home goods accessible and affordable. Musk is slashing costs of transportation, finance, and communication. Bezos improved the Sears model a thousand fold. And so on. What many can’t grasp: one person can literally be >1000x more productive than another, and thus earn >1000x as much.

I seldom agree with every word... but this is one of those times. Great comment.

Politicians get to play with billions that are not their own....if they lose that money, so what?.....they just tax some more.

There will be no future billionaires along the current trajectory.

if no one deserves to be a billionaire, does anyone deserve to be a millionaire, a thousandaire, a hundredaire? Is penniless the proper state of individual wealth?

Raise the minimum wage to a billion dollars and we’ll all be billionaires. Plus, with the increased tax revenue we could pay off the national debt very quickly.

They did that in Zimbabwe. Didn't work out too well.
