Neither Ted Kennedy nor Bill Clinton were around for the current "meToo" environment. Very doubtful that their political careers could've survived in this very unforgiving environment of today.

Kim would melt if somebody brought up the tape and hounded her endlessly during a political campaign. And, neither would her children, who would by old enough by 2024 to understand what their mother and father would be getting put through.

The other side of the coin is that that was not traditionally frowned on in some places.

And the beef about pedophiles is that they never change. Judge Moore ultimately married to a woman 15 years his junior. Same age difference in absolute years, but no issue of “pedophilia” arose in his marriage - or at any time since.

People who retroactively beef about Moore’s courtship of younger women can’t take “yes” for an answer.

and obviously wrong as hell. there were apparently a lot of perfectly reasonable conservatives that that frowned on his dating practices in AL, because he lost a senate seat that had been republican since freaking howell heflin.

Women marry a lot later now than they did sixty years ago. This is a fact.

My own grandmother told me she married at age 16 - might have even been 15, not sure - and her husband was 30 and a widower.

This wasn’t Alabama, it was Oklahoma.

In the mid- 1950s, most - and I do mean most - girls were married before a year after HS graduation.

Mores and expectations do change, they sure have in my lifetime.

Not that I think Hollywood and real life are exactly the same, but if you watch The Quiet Man, the John Wayne character is an American of Irish ancestry who goes to Ireland and marries a local. And it is all about cultural differences. In the story it’s very clear that the YL the Wayne character courts is considered “over the hill” for matrimonial purposes.
