I had a now ex-girlfriend who was an party girl alcoholic. Everything we did revolved around some sort of upcoming party. I was coming out of a divorce and it was fun for a while and then I decided I was nothing more than her designated driver and baby sitter. I finally dumped her in July 2007 and I because of that experience I rarely drink anything anymore than 1/2 case of beer a year and a couple glasses of wine.

Well yeh he was a raging alchoholic. No wonder he felt sick. Its probably a really good thing he stopped. Glad to hear it. I’ll still probably drink a couple of glasses of good cab tonight and feel fine tomorrow.

What a difference a smile makes. Plus diet and exercise. All still possible while enjoying a drink.

Is 35 when it hits?

I actually dread social events that more-or-less require drinking.

Meh; that’s what screen names are for.

Jim Robinson knows who I am because I cut a check once a year, but I doubt he cares.

I went thru a period...young in life...Drank a lot.

Quit when my kids were young...didn't drink for 20 years or so..

Started again...some beers now and again...

Drank "near beer" for awhile....Now I drink "real beer"...Ha!!

Amen to that. On my 11th yr (again!). The monkey is never “ off your back”, but at least it sits on the couch once in a while.

My friend and I have nicknamed another regular at our gym “Pickles”.

Dude is beet red 100% of the time and we’ve seen him throw down at local events but sure enough, somehow he’s in the gym every morning including Saturday. He’s probably around 50 and is very fit.

I feel sorry for people that don't drink, because when they wake up in the morning, that is the best they are going to feel all day.

I think this is only relevant if you have a drinking problem.

But, IMHO, there is a difference between a true problem drinker and one who simply likes their booze.

Well said. When someone senses that alcohol is becoming a serious problem, they should stop. If it's not a problem, then enjoy!

In my case, it was a big problem, and I was unable to live the kind of life I wanted as long as I drank. Cutting back, or moderating was not effective. I had to stop altogether.

Congrats on getting back in one piece...I’ve watched too many good folks end up dead or in jail over the years.
