John Glenn would have to be at the top of my list. He flew combat missions in World War II and Korea, flew alongside baseball great Ted Williams, was one of the original Mercury astronauts, the first American to orbit the earth, was a politician, ran for president, then became the oldest man in space.

Wait. Are you telling me he never held an actual job outside government???

it’s not FR-specific, but you can specify the width by putting “width=55%” or whatever % you want after the “img” tag.

He reminds me of Benedict Arnold. He performed bravely and brilliantly, even suffering the loss of a leg.

Then he turned traitor. Just like Glenn.

John Glenn disgusts me. He was a great war hero - but then he became a politician and became a traitor to the Constitution and American values.

I can never forgive this slimeball for ‘running interference’ during hearings that were aimed at digging out the China connection - where the Chinese government was funneling campaign cash to Bill Clinton. Glenn used every parliamentary maneuver to squash evidence, hide witnesses, etc....

Eventually - a later investigation showed that there was truly illegal campaign contributions from China that went to Clinton - but Glenn protected the corrupt Clinton - and earned a space ride in the Shuttle. He sold out this nation for a ride in space. Traitor. Disgusting.

Glenn willfully and deliberately obstructed the investigation into ChinaGate and the Clintons, the most serious crime of that dreadful regime (selling nuclear secrets to the Red China military, money-laundering, et al). His actions were treasonous... all to get another ride into space. Hope it was worth your soul, Johnny-boy.

As my Sen. Fred Thompson said (who chaired that committee, and rarely had a bad word about anyone) when the media came to him for a feel-good soundbyte about Glenn, he said what he had to say about him could not be aired on television.

I was a huge Glenn fan until he traded a vote to save clinton for an old buzzard trip into space.

No thanks.

He and Sully did their jobs, and then sold out America.

A-10s are the closest thing we’ve got and they do pretty eell.

John Glenn once said that Ted Williams was the best combat fighter pilot he ever saw.

A very interesting claim, but since Glenn ran for President a couple times, he might have said it before the Massachusetts Primary.

Off topic, but interesting....

Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Jack Nicklaus all actively used “swing visualization” before each pitch or golf stroke.

Each one also said he began doing that as a child before he ever heard someone talk about it.

Nowadays, visualization is a part of coaching in almost every sport.

But, it’s a cool coincidence that three of the greatest ball strikers of all time each “discovered” it on his own.

The problem with Glenn is, he started as a JFK-type Democrat, but allowed the swamp to corrupt him. The Keating Five scandal — where he was associated with another corrupt POS John McCain — only served to drag him irrevocably into the hole and compromised him forever.

My father was a very connected NASA official during the ‘60s and early ‘70s, and I got to meet John Glenn as a child. I idolized him back then, but no more.
