Throwback Thursday: When Real Women Wore Hosiery

I’m not exactly sure what this means but it can’t be good. Here’s the deal:

I saw this photo of Fiona Hill arriving to testify, or whatever, in the Impeachment Inquiry, or whatever, conducted by the House Intelligence Committee, or whatever committee is investigating the President this week - I didn’t care enough to check but I presume at some point this circus has to move onto the Judiciary committee – and my only thought was:

“Oh look, Fiona’s wearing black stockings! Maybe the bare-legged look is finally over.”

Image result for bare legs and. hosieryCan I hear it for a return to grace?

So there you have it, my fever broke for a day or two. By repeating the soothing mantra “I don’t give a Schiff” I managed to suspend my rage by remembering a more civilized time when bare legs were considered vulgar unless you were wearing shorts.

For several days I was fine, ignoring everything leaked by the Kangaroo Kourt. Until yesterday that is, when the President met with members of Congress to discuss the Syrian situation and little Miss Fancy-Pantsy advised President Trump that with him “all roads lead to Putin.” She-of-little brain conveniently ignoring the fact that it was President Obama, not President Trump, who allowed Russia to get a foothold in the Middle East. And that it was Obama’s redline head-fake that created today’s mess.

The party whose political ideology brought slovenliness to virtually every level of human behavior only now thinks to ask “why the hell are we standing down”?  Unfortunately it was their squad that let their panties get in a bundle.

And I’m pretty sure they don’t know how to unbundle them so they’ll just blame President Trump. And continue to bitch about the incivility. Well if they insist on continuing this fight they might want to stock up on some of these:

What, no one told you? Nooooo. You didn’t have to throw away the whole pair. When one leg gets a run, cut that leg off up around the panty line. Then, when you have to cut another pair up, just wear both good halves as one complete pair. You get 3 pairs out of 2! Those also stay in place better than a new (no cut) pair.

Those no cut pairs always hung down in the crotch which caused all sorts of discomfort. Simple solution to that, too. Wear your panties on the outside to help hold up the pantyhose crotch.

That was the style in the 80s.

In the past we didn’t go bare-legged for work or special occasions, even in Summer. It was sort of vulgar.

“As a red-blooded male I want to shake the hand of the inventor of yoga pants
As a father I want to choke-slam the inventor of yoga pants”

LOL! My sentiment exactly!

Her: “You should be ashamed. Do you look at your daughter that way?”
Him: “Don’t be ridiculous. Of course not. I only look at her friends that way.”

That all sounds terribly complicated and uncomfortable. I’ll stick to my garters.

I don’t understand the cowboy boots and short dress or skirt thing.

I used to know a career woman who had long, fantastic legs; she always wore a black suit, black pumps, white blouse, and WHITE stockings. She looked fabulous.

Honky-tonk chic. It was a thing in the 80s when George Strait was a hip new concept.

Yes, that is one problem with “hosiery” in this day and age. The cost is very high. $10 for pantyhose, that might only last for one wearing, is not reasonable.

I do still wear pantyhose or thigh-high for dressy occasions, and knee-high with slacks, except for the summer months. With the knee-high and thigh-high, if you get a run in ONE leg, you can still use the other one, assuming you have a matching “mate” for it.

It seems like tights are much more in fashion now, which do look better than leggings with skirts and dresses (IMO. But black tights do NOT go with every outfit.

Many adult women (I am guessing under about 45?) would never go to the effort to hand-wash any clothing items, so that might also be a reason for the decline in hosiery.

I’m very appreciative of women that “dress up” rather than going slovenly like a lot of women do now days. I know it can take extra effort, but it shows respect for oneself.

I’ll be glad if the bare legged days are over. Then we wouldn’t have to be looking at so many ugly heels - really ugly - due to not wearing hose. But I guess it’s what made the mani-pedi business flourish so women can go in and get those horrible looking feet with cracks etc., taken care of. I still have a supply of new pantyhose and I still wear them when needed but never would I go barelegged wearing a skirt..aged women do screwy things, I guess!

That’s for sure. Try Sacramento heat in the summer - no one appeared at work or anywhere else formal without stockings!! I think ‘60’s was early for pantyhose but we all took advantage of them when they came out. We wore stockings and garter belts..or I guess some wore girdles?

Pantyhose as we know them now seemed to become common in the mid to late 1960s - you needed them with the mini and micro-mini skirts.

Most of us wore some kind of girdle (’foundation’) with garters attached back then. I was happy to get rid of that and use the garter belt.

...What were the shiny ones women wore back in the 80's? Those looked nice...

Those were made by the brand Leggs that came in an egg. Their egg stands were everywhere.
