Trump may not be a good president, but he won the election
The Bangor Daily News ^ | October 14, 2019 | The Editorial Board

Donald Trump is president. He may not be a very good one, but he won an election. And no amount of irresponsible commentary from his defeated opponent will change that.

The fact that Trump received nearly 3 million fewer total votes than Hillary Clinton doesn’t make him any less our president under the constitutionally prescribed Electoral College system. And the fact that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election with a preference for Trump — something reports from special counsel Robert Muller and both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee have found — does not, on its own, obscure Trump’s legitimacy, either.

If we let that type of nefarious foreign activity undermine the legitimacy of a duly-elected chief executive, without conclusive evidence that his or her campaign colluded in that activity, then all an adversary has to do is try to influence our election with the goal of helping one candidate, get caught, and then our whole system starts to unwind. It’s an incredibly slippery slope to go down, particularly right now.

In the midst of an impeachment debate, when Democrats are extolling the undoubted virtue of the Constitution and the rule of law, it’s dangerous for one of their most visible figures — and in particular, the very person who lost the election — to be asserting that Trump’s 2016 victory was illegitimate.

When Clinton said in an interview with PBS last week that “obviously I can beat [Trump] again,” she played into the dubious notion of Trump’s 2016 win not counting. And though she indicated she was joking in that case, it’s hard to take the comment in jest when, less than two weeks ago, she asserted on CBS that Trump is an “illegitimate president.”

she asserted on CBS that Trump is an “illegitimate president.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The illegitimate President is the one she served as Secretary of Graft.
The Kenyan from Indonesia is not NATURALLY an American even if born in Hawaii. He was born with THREE nationalities and added Indonesian later.
Natural born citizens have ONE nationality, that’s why they are NATURALLY Americans, it’s impossible for them to be anything else.
I would change the headline to say “Trump may not be too likeable to a lot of people but at least he’s a good president!”
They defend him as the legitimate chief executive even though they don’t care for him and go after Hillary for her nonsense.
Obama will never be a natural born citizen.
Either you are born with only ONE nationality or you are not.,
The Bangor Daily News is a liberal leftie rag. It used to have the largest circulation of all Maine daily newspapers. Now: one of the least. The paper supports every left wing loonie moonbat idea that comes down the pike from Massachusetts, New York or California. The number of pages in the average daily edition has decreased by over 40%, along with advertisers. It is not your grandfather’s newspaper. And our household has not subscribed to it for ten or more years, as it is too disgusting to read.
Alright, Vet, I did endeavor to read the article despite that atrocious headline! Talk about alienating potential readers right out of the gate...
But anyway, I get the impression that this letter is written by “sane” Democrats to rabidly insane Democrats, and is trying to bring them back into orbit somehow. I put sane in quotes, because obviously there are no sane Democrats.
Seems like the goal here is to keep them from totally destroying their party.
Trump is an excellent President, and he won the election.
Next time you see some RAT prattling on about the constitution, understand that as in all things, the Left only believes in something when it benefits them.
“Trump’s failure to meaningfully confront Russia’s past and continued election interference efforts, but it does perhaps help explain in part his unfortunate reticence to prioritize this important security issue.”
Any so called Russian interference is directly Obama’s fault as he was responsible for the election integrity. That is where the 1st rock in the glass house needs to the thrown.
Why do these Leftie sources, who want to come to the defense of the president, always start off by claiming, "Trump may not be a good president...."? WTF?!
The fact of the matter is, Trump is an excellent president at fulfilling his campaign promises to his supporters, creating a booming economy and working on stopping illegal immigration and a host of other actual accomplishments.
His detractors focus of his demeanor, behavior and vocal criticism of anybody who attacks him. Gone are the days of GW Bush who was rounding criticized but chose to hold his fire and looked weak for not defending himself.
Trump is the man of this era. I can name no one else, no one, who could be accomplishing what he has done in the face of constant domestic enemy attacks and still be standing. He relishes this job and his supporters can see it. They got exactly who they voted for and then some.
The editors at the Bangor Daily News are still in the dark about why he is so popular. He's a man of action as well as words. There will not be another president like him for a long time to come.
They agree that President Trump won the Electoral College therefor IS the President, but the comments made all through about Trump failing to do this and his “unwittingly” lack of action...The comments about Russia interfering on Trump’s behalf, yet unproven, still creates a piece of crap article...My opinion...
I would change the headline to say
“Trump may not be too likeable to TDS liberals, but at least he’s a good president!”
The editorial board got almost every fact wrong but they are absolutely correct in their statements that Trump won the election and that Hillary should STHU.
“Why even put such a stupid article in here???”
To show the beginning of a significant turn: Leftists tiring of the hysteria, and realizing that Trump is, after all, President and hasn’t done anything wrong. The TDS base is starting to crumble. This isn’t the first high-profile article elaborating on “you may not like him, but he’s here, he’s not going away soon, and if you keep being deranged about the fact he’s gonna be around another 4 years - legitimately.”
Trump knows how to measure success. Obama’s idea of “success” was not nearly the same as Trump’s, nor was it his intention to measure it in a way that we would always have known where we stood. Now that we know the difference between the best successful POTUS’s agenda and that of the worst successful POTUS’s agenda (45 vs 44), our chances of winning 2020 and beyond do seem to be a whole lot better.
