President Trump and his views on immigration, Muslims and foreign affairs isnt popular with Indian Americans. Thats not likely to change much, so why did Trump travel to Houston over the weekend to appear with the recently reelected Indian prime minister before thousands of them?
More than 80 percent of Indian Americans voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, according to an analysis by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. And according to the Asian American Voter Survey, Trumps approval rating was 28 percent with Indian Americans registered to vote in 2018.
But that isnt keeping the president from appealing to win the support of some members of the community. Trump will probably remain largely unpopular with black Americans the group that voted against him at higher rates than any other ethnic or racial group. But part of his reelection strategy appears to focus on or at least give the appearance of nipping away at how strongly other people of color back Democrats. Those familiar with Indian American political engagement, however, say Trumps efforts are not likely to be deeply effective with the community.

When will you GOpers stop playing footsies with Asians? They are racist to the core and voted for Hillary 93-7 in 2016.
Well posted, Mr. Widget.

Trump loses when he does this.....
Were your ancestors forced to go back to their home countries and fix them? Or is that somehow different?
Alienates Americans workers that see more pressure on green cards and H1-b immigration.
The perception is Trump being played a fool for falling for praise from an ethnic group that voted for Hillary 93-7.
Not good optics in general.
Plays into suspicion that the fix is in and H1-b will not be fixed or even ended, instead maybe put on rocket fuel.
India has a severe air quality problem (I have personally experienced it)...they burn a lot of coal to meet their energy needs. Converting their coal fired plants to LNG or natural gas would create a huge opportunity for U.S. LNG exports.
A huge pool of low wage factory workers, who could replace Chinese suppliers of low wage products entirely...and permanently.
IMHO, moving manufacturing to countries such as Vietnam is a temporary solution to the tariffs on Chinese goods. Once these tariffs are removed, China will simply demand that manufacturing be returned to China or the company will lose access to China's market.
This would not work with India...companies would have access to the Indian market, which in most instances would be larger than the Chinese market (India has a growing middle class).
India has a lot of old, Russian built, military hardware that desperately needs replacement. They want to decrease or eliminate their dependence on Russia. A strategic partnership with India would open a huge market for U.S. defense contractors.
Sucking up the the Indian H-1B lobby, ehic is ho this rally was perceived, is not what they care about.
I don’t know about you, but I’m an American worker and I have no problem with the president campaigning in front of any group of voters. I’m sorry if you feel that some immigrant took your job, but life isn’t fair. I didn’t get every job I applied for either. Harboring a grudge on a billion people isn’t healthy.
Sod off, swampy.
What part of “White Genocide / White Replacement” don’t you follow yet?
It is not asking to much for the USA to not be flooded with millions of immigrants when wages have been stagnant for 30 years especially for college grads. You are tone deaf and out of touch with reality, this it is not 1978 or some such BS. The GOP will always be a minority party of globalists corporatism who fool idiots like you.
Socialism isn't fair either but the Republican Party is driving us towards it...
Fixed it.
who could rapidly displace Chinese citizens in the US
Better idea: replace them with the 3.5 un- or underemployed STEM-degreed American workers.
People from India have by far the highest median household income of any ethnic groups in the USA. Thus they are paying super high taxes compared to the rest. The tax changes have been very good for them.
Wow. Not a single comment on the H1-b bills poised to pass in Congress selling out our tech advantage to India. This is why I held a protest in Concord, CA on Labor Day a few years back. Trump needs to state that he will veto any resulting bill over this matter. That might be enough to keep Mich. in his corner.
At my workplace they are getting ensnared by the workplace diversity talk. They even have a shadow board on the issue. I mean, if it does not smell of communist indoc disguised as PR...
