Martin Luther King III believes that Colin Kaepernick could easily return to football — but thinks it will require some help from NFL fans. The human rights activist and oldest living child of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., recently told TMZ Sports that Kaepernick could get back into the league “overnight” with the public’s help. The NFL star, 31, has been out of work for over 900 days, according to USA Today, since he left the 49ers in March 2017. He sparked controversy after starting the #TakeAKnee movement during an August 2016 preseason game, when he chose to kneel rather than stand during the national anthem in protest of racial injustices, including police brutality. In 2018, Kaepernick filed a collusion grievance lawsuit against the NFL, which was settled out of court in February of this year, according to a statement from his attorneys. “What would change it overnight is if the public decided to say ‘Okay were not going to watch,’ ” King III told TMZ Sports. “But it’s a complicated situation, because what about the guys who are playing?” he added. “That’s their jobs, that’s their livelihood, they don’t need to have to stop playing, but by the same token, I would say the majority of them, agree or empathize.” King III explained that although the “industry did blackball” Kaepernick, “there might be some owners that are empathetic,” sharing that he “had heard that a couple of owners might employ him.” He added, “He certainly is one of the most talented quarterbacks even today, probably. I see more contact in a basketball game than I do in a typical NFL football game. That said, I’d rather watch international rugby. At least those guys know how to tackle.

The NFL attendance and ratings have been tanking for years. And they will continue to do so until the league is again run by people that love America, not hate it.
Now, as the stadiums continue to see more and more empty seats, and the TV ratings continue to drop, this idiot can get on television and proclaim, “our boycott is working!”
Whatever it takes.

I’ve quit talking to myself, mostly.
Some of the teams are immensely profitable, while they have all increased in sale value due to the League's success. It may be aggravating to have to turn stupid and thuggish but athletically talented ball players into often vainglorious and preening multimillionaires, but the burden is slight. Lush TV contracts, favorable tax treatment, public stadium subsidies, and owner carve-outs of ancillary profit streams make an NFL team a good way for rich owners to get richer while having a lot of fun.
The greatest risks to the NFL are: (1) that concern for chronic brain trauma degrades the traditionally bruising and crowd-pleasing character of the NFL game; and (2), that the decline of the network and cable TV financial model diminishes their ability to pay the NFL outsize fees. Those issues are far more worrisome than the Colin Kaepernick problem.

MLK3 apparently plays baseball. It looks like he’s had a good year at the plate.
Actually, it would have the exact opposite effect. An effective salary cap would lower the cost to the owners. If ticket prices remained at their current rate, profits would soar. However, it would make more sense to lower ticket prices a little to expand that market. I took my son to a Colts game 10 years ago and with parking, a hotdog, nachos, and a soft drink for both of us, plus the cost of tickets was over $110. I haven't been back since.
