Todays Campaign Update, Part II (Because The Campaign Never Ends)
On my first day as president, I will sign an executive order that puts a total moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases for drilling offshore and on public lands. And I will ban frackingeverywhere. Elizabeth Warren
I was asked by a radio host this week for my initial takeaway from CNNs 7-hour marathon of Democratic Climate Change talking points that aired on September 4. My response was the only thing that came into my head: God help us if any of these people wins the election.
By us I mean the oil and gas industry, in which I spent a 38-year career, and everyone in Texas, where Ive lived my entire life. Because the reality of that 7 hours of talking points by 10 leading contenders for the Democratic Partys 2020 presidential nomination is that pretty much every idea advanced by the candidates was a direct assault on the industrys continuing license to operate in the United States, and thus on the Texas economy.
The Texas economy has diversified significantly since the bad old days of the 1980s, when the oil bust collapsed the states savings and loan and banking industries and more Texans were out of work than anytime other than during the Great Depression. But despite that diversification, oil and gas still drives more economic growth here than any other business sector.
So, when you see every candidate on that stage including Texans Julian Castro and Beto ORourke call for the banning of fracking, you see a proposal that would throw the Texas economy immediately into a recession and toss tens of thousands of Texans out of work. When you see Kamala Harris and several others demonize the plastics industry, you see a direct attack on Texas, whose chemicals and plastics industry has boomed in the past decade, with hundreds of billions in new capital investments, thanks to cheap natural gas prices.
When you see Andrew Wang and others talk about banning internal combustion engines and forcing everyone to drive an electric vehicle, you see a direct attack on Texas, home to the nations largest refining industry. When you see Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden talk about the need to end the use of all fossil fuels in power generation, you see a direct attack on Texas, where natural gas powers more homes and businesses than all other fuel sources. Those attacks on natural gas are also attacks on the environment, given that U.S. carbon emissions have dropped to 1980s-levels in recent years thanks mainly to natural gas displacing coal in power generation.
The attacks on Texas and its economy were not limited to energy alone: Agriculture is the states second-most prevalent business. When you see Pete Buttigieg telling Americans that if they eat a hamburger, theyre part of the problem, youre seeing a direct attack on Texas and its ranching industry.
When you see ORourke and others talk about the need to end corporate farming, youre seeing a direct assault on Texas and its farmers, given that, when you look into the details of their various plans, you see that they all call for ending the use of diesel-fueled farm equipment like tractors and combines, not to mention all those Ford F-150s. Thats not just for corporate farmers, but for all farmers.
This stark reality, of course, is one of the main reasons why the Democratic National Committee denied requests from Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and a few other candidates to hold a formal debate focused solely on Climate Change. The partys leaders actually entertain the notion that Texass shifting demographics might give their presidential candidate a shot to win the states electoral votes in 2020. But they also know that, if Texans become educated on the realities of how the candidates various solutions would impact their daily lives, those chances will fade accordingly.
Those DNC concerns were well-founded, and CNN did the party no favors by airing those proposals in such great detail. In presidential politics, some promises are better left unmade.
That is all.
The Dems want to send the US back to the Horse and Buggy days without the Horse
Pubbies need to start asking the Dims why they changed “Global Warming” to “Climate Change”, and why they think electricity can replace oil and gas as our nation’s main source of fuel. Also, they should point out the adverse effect solar panels and wind turbines have on the environment!
On her first day as president and every day thereafter I will ignore her commands. Fauxcahontas can go to h@ll.
Thanks for posting!
I wish CNN would do another 14-hour long Climate town hall with the Democrat candidates.
The more we can keep these morons talking about this topic, the more chance there is for some of our brain-dead countrymen who get all their information from Facebook and the MSM to realize just what sort of devastation the USA will face if these people ever take power again.
Right now just about all major farm equipment is diesel fueled, making this an assault on all modern farming and an assault on the well being and nutrition of all Americans. Get rid of "corporate farming" and we starve all of America. Of course, that's what these communists want to do, just as the did in Zimbabwe and are doing in Venezuela.
California grew and became strong due to conservative principles and practices. Democrats took over the state by lying to the people, and now they have an iron fist control over the people and are raping them through taxation. Now those same rapist Democrats have their sights on Texas, to do the same thing. Take away from the people, lie and decieve them, and and tax them to death. And all the time the Democrats will preach how bad and awful the conservatives are through indoctrination. And the Democrats will create this huge monster of a government that needs constant feeding to sustain itself. In California, the middle class or what is left of it now realizes they have become slaves to the monster the Democrats have created. Yes, the Democrat Progressive who aspire to eliminate your constitutional rights have set their sights on Texas, because so many Californians have fled to Texas, and the progressives in California want to reclaim their slaves
Beto and the Democrats want collective farms like in China or what Russia had until they figured out it was a failure. Collective farming uses manual labor, no machinery, to farm. Communism is what it is called. For some reason Progressive Democrats see communism as the perfect solution for the United States, while communist countries are abandoning communism and turning towards capitalism to become strong. Progressives are destroying the United States
It all of their proposals were implemented, we’ve be living in caves.
I’ll never understand their assault on corporate farming, It’s an industry, like any other, that takes raw inputs, adds labor, produces a product, and gets it to market through a series of intermediaries and retail outlets. It benefits immensely from large scale operations in terms of productivity, efficiency, low operating costs, and spreading / managing risk. The strong survive and prosper; the weak either grow and get efficient or depart the industry. I understand the lament for small “family farmers” who are squeezed out and that people are nostalgic for the way things used to be. But the truth is it used to take 85% to 90% of the population for the country to feed itself and now it takes only 2% of the country’s population to feed the entire nation. It is an astounding success story, not unlike many other industries.
The Democrats would force all of us to toil at our small garden plots for hours every day after work growing a few vegetables and fruits. They want us to go back to a subsistence level of living. They are insane.
The bosh and nonsense spouted off during this seven hours of “debate” is going to be swept under the rug and never heard of again once they finally nominate somebody.
“I will ignore her commands”
Right. Bluff and bluster like that is useless. Just look at how we ignored all their commands to marry Bob and Steve, to change all our lightbulbs, to buy high-mileage CAFE standard cars, to not let boys into the girls bathrooms, to murder babies, etc etc.
Good luck ignoring their commands if they get in power. You won’t be able to buy a gasoline powered car, all the fossil fueled power plants will be shut down and your food prices will soar. How, exactly, would you ignore all that?
It will be as good as left unsaid when the MSM ignores it and it is buried around convention time next year, never to be heard of again. No MSM reporter will ever ask “Are you really going to outlaw gasoline powered cars? Are you really going to raise our energy prices ten-fold? Are you really going to force all of us to grown our own food? Are you really going to make us keep our houses at 85F in the summer and 60F in the winter? Are you really going to end all vacation trips?”
Good point.
“...I will sign an executive order that puts a total moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases for drilling offshore and on public lands. And I will ban fracking...”
No you won’t.
Republican concept of farming:
