How did the cops miss the bicycle thief's nuts? That would have been way more entertaining!

Oh yeah, aren't sadistic cops just a hoot?

Perhaps some of us ‘ass clowns’ have seen too many instances of where the law doesn’t apply to the fellas in blue and we have become a bit jaded in our view. I hope you never experience ‘ unnecessary’ police violence.
BTW, just so we can be sure, what level of unnecessary violence being performed on you are you comfortable with?

Middle of town, same crime, same penalty. Location of the crime was unimportant.

You have every right to have this attitude, but your worship of the armed state disqualifies you from being called a conservative.

Take your tuff guy act to a police state web site.

I’ve had many a bike stolen, and it’s really irritating. Thieves suck.

We had that problem when our kids were young. I wanted to put a "bait" bike in the yard, on wet ground, attached to a plugged-in electrical wire, then shovel and shut up in the morning. Mrs. JimRed nixed the idea.

These anti-cop threads are hilarious. Somewhere around 800,000 cops in the US, but a few seconds of a minutes long video (obviously not the case here) once or twice a month and we are all living under tyranny, one breath away from a “jackboot” robbing us of our freedom. Realistically, those are pretty good odds.

...I obey the law...

That won't always save you.

Or they might barge into your house and shoot you because they are swatting the wrong address.

You are overlooking an important point. Let’s say a checkout clerk does something stupid, or even malevolent. What’s the worst that could happen? You’ll get overcharged for a can of peaches.

But a cop has great power, the power to send you to prison, injure you, or even kill you. So every incident involving possible police misconduct MUST be carefully examined. Even if it’s only a rare event.

I am not saying they shouldn’t be held accountable for bad actions, and even mistakes. But every single use of force by a cop is closely scrutinized, if only for the liability purposes. Unfortunately, cops don’t have the privilege of watching a video before deciding what action to take, and many times those decisions involve the knowledge they might wind up in a fight. How many times does the checkout clerk look at that can of peaches and realize it might involve a fight, chase, or worse?

The issue is people who are so easily manipulated by any story that criticizes police, and conclude the worst. One of the tactics used before the Russian revolution was to undermine public faith in law enforcement.

If the police give someone a lawful order then yes, you should comply. But once they commit a crime while wearing a badge then so far as I’m concerned then that’s why we have the Second Amendment.

And that’s just the way it should be.

Right you are. And that’s what makes police work so difficult. In some respects, it’s like being a surgeon. Make a mistake under pressure, and there will be hell to pay.

It’s just nature of the job. But this cannot be used as an excuse for misbehavior! To see what I mean, take a look at the video in my post #16.

> One of the tactics used before the Russian revolution was to undermine public faith in law enforcement. <

Yep. But it must be said that cops today deserve some of the blame for this. I say “hello” to my mailman, I get a “hello” back. I say “hello” to a local cop, I get a rude stare back.

That didn’t happen 30 years ago. So a cop is rude to me. No big deal. Or maybe it is a big deal, because my perception of him has changed.

(Sorry for the rant. I’ll give you the last word, if you wish.)

Never mind that statistically police officers are twice as likely to be murdered on duty as a non-police citizen is to be killed by a cop (and “killed” is inclusive, justified, unjustified, accidental, gangbangers).

Lies. Damned Lies. And Statistics.

There are 327,000,000 citizens and about 800,000 cops, which makes this statistic completely meaningless.

Perhaps you can provided a source for this garbage so that I might laugh directly at the author.

They used to hang horse thieves.

They used to hang horse thieves because your horse was your survival.

Unless the guy that he stole it from was out in the desert and that was his transportation the situations are not equivalent.
