President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Wednesday to cancel the student loan debt of disabled veterans.
“Today I’m proud to announce that I am taking executive action to ensure that our wounded warriors are not saddled with mountains of student debt,” Trump said in a speech at the AMVETS National Convention in Kentucky.
More than 25,000 disabled veterans will have their student debt forgiven, the president said.

The problem with this is that they are saying a person who is totally and permanently disabled qualifies and that it is determined at discharge. On many cases. it is not. I am a perfect example. My injuries were recognized at 30% upon retirement discharge. I went back to school using a lot of my nickle in loans. I wasn’t recognized to 100% until 6 years after discharge and two years later, another 100%, of which they don’t pay me for the full 200%. But there will be a lot of vets that will get that 100% long after they are committed to cover their bills.
And since there is a requirement to be re-evaluated on a yearly basis, with a physical, what happens to the money awarded if a vet goes under 100%, unworkable? Lot of bugs in this one.

Student loan forgiveness for vers is just as wrong as forgivness for:
Blacks
Asians
Liberals
Midgets
Police Officers
LGBT
Prisoners
I’m not “re-evaluated” on a yearly basis that I know of. I went from 10% to 100%+ over a course of about 30 years.

The disability band wagon left the station quite a while back and we now have a huge number of people who would never have been considered disabled in previous generations. A large percentage of former military personnel have fallen into this trap. When they go to the VA they even have personnel counseling retired people to claim that they have PTSD so they can get more money even if they are not complaining about problems. Whenever people start depending on government handouts for their livelihood it is bad for them.
This at least reads that it may only include service connected combat wounds ie a Purple Heart recipient. Would be a stretch to call someone getting service connected disability a wounded warrior if the disability is for throwing a disc in your back unloading a truck. That lends more to a 'workmans comp' type disability than a wound from combat. This could be an interesting can of worms reading the comments so far.
This really makes me uncomfortable, not because I don’t want to help disabled vets, but because the next time the Democrats hold power they’ll expand the program to forgive loans to other classes of people they deem deserving, including categories that are clearly madness.
I thought student loans were already forgiven in case of disability?

I think it could lead to a massive increase in enlistments where the troops intend to *not* serve their full tour/s and will attempt like deuce to get out of the service/s with a Medical Discharge.
If they can tie the percentages of the disability to the percentages of the debt forgiven, then it may actually be a fair shake for the military. Many guys and gals have honest/valid disabilities and are not at 100% so if they got any break in the Student/Education Loans it may help them.
On a side note, my father told me over and over to go back and get my case evaluated again. First, I don’t trust any government. Second, and actually more important, I am content with my disability rating. Yes, like a lot of folks I went through stuff that did not have to happen but it did (like life, right?). The VA doctors were actually quite pi**ed as they read the notes from my files.
I knew there were issues; the military, being ‘Mission First,’ no matter what kept saying I didn’t. Let me tell you, when I received my disability notice I screamed out of shock. It was just knowing that the doctors could actually see what the doctors in the military did not want to see.
Life, right?
Back to my dad. He kept telling me over and over to go back. I finally told him if he would talk to my adopted Muslim sister about Christ the same way he talks about wanting me to go back to the VA, then, and only then will I consider it.
While I don’t expect either to happen, there is always hope, at least that he will talk to my adopted Muslim sister about Christ.

This is for 100% disabled veterans Only. So anyone complaining about this needs to wise up.
Any veteran who is 100% disabled DESERVES AND EARNED this.
I applaud this move. Our veterans who is 100% disabled is presently having to pay these loans from their disability checks. They deserve better. Their suicide rate is crazy. And we need to ease their suffering.
What part of 100% disabled is not understood?
We have had so many people in this country go on Social Security Disability and some of our citizens think that VA Disability is the same as Social Security Disability.
It is not.
Social Security Disability is looking at whether the person can work.
VA Disability is for Disability brought about during the person’s term of service.
The Veteran was in the Service.
Most vets do not have student loan debt loads like the free loaders. They have GI bills that pay for college.
Nobody coached me to claim Disability.
Are there Veterans who game the system?
Yep.
Are there VA employees who game the system to deny Disability?
Yep.
Of course not, I value their service and fully support the military. The left will use this as justification for $1.6 trillion in student loan forgiveness for everyone.
You can only have one Disability per major system.
The book the VA uses to determine disabilities and percentages is so old that many present day disabilities aren’t listed in it.
The VA has made no effort to update this book.
Why?
They would have to pay out more Disability, and they don’t want to do that.
The biggest problem is that the VA became an employment agency.
The Democrats don’t mind increasing the VA budget as long as that money goes to hiring employees.
To the Democrats, the employees are more important than the Veterans.
100% disabled , I this case, doesn’t mean they can’t work. I know several 100%ers that work and make tons of money. It’s becoming a scam.
I’m glad to hear no one coached you...I have a different experience- EVERY SINGLE ONE of our friends did...all coached...most finangled at least 20%...all 100% healthy able to work NO PTSD- how do I know? Because they all talk about it, laugh about it, brag about it.
