The race to find a Democratic challenger to President Donald Trump is under way. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are contenders in a ring with a little more than 20 contenders.
The US Presidential elections are more than a year away and Africa will be looking keenly at who is inaugurated in 2021.
The emergence of Donald Trump raised fundamental questions about likely changes in Americas role in the world, including Africa. Fears over Republican Trump were heightened by his silence throughout the campaign on matters relating to the continent, focusing heavily on China and Russia.
Policy perspective and relations between the US and Africa strengthened significantly under previous US Presidents. Barack Obama introduced the US Africa Leaders Summit and US Africa Business Summit in 2014. The Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) launched by George W Bush in 2003 was an initiative to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic with impact primarily in sub-Saharan Africa.
Two and a bit years on, President Trumps policies could be said to be detrimental to Africa. Making America great is based on influence elsewhere, other than in this continent of 1.2 billion men, women and children. Trump prefers to concentrate on global competitors China and Russia.
In the 2018 budget, Trump was categorical in prioritising defence spending and fighting terrorism over diplomacy and foreign aid. Non-defence programmes became vulnerable to Trumps knife, pushing Africa to the bottom as Trump flexed financial and military muscles fighting Al Qaeda, ISIS, al-Shabab and Boko Haram.

Let’s get Greenland bought before we go making offers on any African countries ;-)
Would be fun to start the rumor about buying Kenya, where as part of due diligence all the “records” would have to be examined, you know...
“pushing Africa to the bottom “
Africa is already at the bottom, and should stay there, unless they actually want to get themselves out of the muck.
Freeeee Nelson Mandela.
Freeeeeeeee Nelson Mandela.
Now its time to
Freeeeeee the American Taxpayer.
Freeeeeee the American Taxpayer.
The reply I would have posted to that blog, if it didn’t have to go thru facefook:
” Why are you waiting for the white man to save you? Get off your lazy asses and make something of yourselves”
They can’t and they won’t. I didn’t start out as a “racist” but I’m too much of a “realist” to have much hope. Tribalism and violence is their heritage and their destiny.
Not that I care.
OPINION: If Trump’s in the market, should SA be having a show day?

Couldn’t even make it through the excerpt. We’ve given them trillions and they still kill each other with machetes and starve to death. Find a new sugar daddy.
Continent has no known natural disasters such as earthquakes or tornadoes, tropical climate, and they’re the richest in terms of mineral and natural resources and they still can’t figure it out.
The US did a survey in the South African shantytowns more than 15 years ago. The two things the residents wanted were:
1) The rule of law.
2) Private property.
The ruling class commies will never allow that.
That means that the shantytown residents need:
1)Battle rifles and ammo.
2) Training.
Maybe Africa should worry about what it’s doing for us. But that would require quite a few things they lack.
The stuff about what Obama did for Africa is bullcrap. Started some institute or something?
Fact is, Africa is not strategically located, lacks wealth or power. As a result it’s always been at the bottom of any foreign policy list.
Try talking to the Clintons about the great work their foundation is doing in Africa. Heck - just look at all the websites that boast such great work. Shouldn’t have any problem at all getting them to spend their money to help all the countries there. Problem solved. No worry!
They’ll counter that with “famines”......
