Social Justice Warriors Boycott Wayfair: “The One With the Apothecary Table”

Today’s Open thread Sunday, as I continue my weekend vacation, is a suggestion from Blonde Gator proposed after linking an article bemoaning yet another Millennial dilemma: their inability to afford “ethical” furniture. BG posted it along with this comment: “These mean little dumb-ass millennials will attack most viciously anything they don't (or WON'T) understand. Read the article....here is your BEVERAGE alert.” So consider yourself warned.

The budget furniture dilemma: As companies like Wayfair face criticism, is buying from them the right thing to do?

BG suggested that since everyone of *ahem* a certain age has gone junkin’ for wonderful furniture finds that this would make a wonderful open thread topic :

I'm sure that like most of you, my fellow MOTI, that you all have many pieces, collected over a lifetime, gifted, inherited, carefully shopped (my "china cabinet" is an imported solid mahogany bookshelf with glass sides and doors (7' panels of glass),6 shelves tall, into which I put multiple mini-spot lights…

Sorry, I'm rambling, but I find it terribly difficult to understand these SJW twits and their priorities. Where's the FUN in that? I know how much fun my friends & I had combing 2nd hand shops, antique shops, (we used to call one place the Bump N' Dent) and even Junkin' Day (garage sales)....never knowing what cool piece we'd find.

I knew the MOTI all would find it amusing and have stories to tell about particular pieces, treasure hunts, recycled stuff made into perfection, etc.

So have at it. For my 2 cents I’ll just note that this isn’t a new problem, Phoebe Buffet was dealing with it on the cusp of the Millennium.

So then , we are to boycott these places because :

1. Wayfair is apparently evil because they had a contract to supply furniture to our “concentration camps” for illegal aliens.

2. Ikea has worked to bust unions, and their products are made out of particleboard. And the particleboard furniture doesn’t last , so the items end up clogging landfills.

Is there any business which meets all the liberal criteria for being an ethical humane business?

So who is the government suppose to purchase furniture from for detainment facilities? The funny thing about these liberal boycotts is that they are constantly demonstrating what a bunch of paper tigers that they all are. Wal-Mart has grown into the world's largest retailer and largest employer in the country while facing union and leftist boycotts and propaganda for many decades. At this point one wonders if it isn't helpful to them, creating a desire to shop in the forbidden store among even union members.

So their boycott is for the purpose of ensuring poor conditions in the referenced facilities.

And Chick Fil A has become a major fast food company, has really grown in recent years, in spite of the liberal boycott of that company.

Yes, young liberal elites find it acceptable to spend free time searching yard sales and 'junk' stores for finds - because white liberal elites have all the time in the world to turn furniture shopping into a fun experience.

Young elites have the money, the time, and live in communities where castoffs are often heirlooms quality. This piece is nothing more than the usual 'elite nose in the air crap' we've come to hate them for...

Well I am boycotting Wayfair.
Here’s why:

I went to their site. Liked a few rugs, meaning to go back later & buy one or two.

Immediately & everafter, Wayfair has spammed me with HUNDREDS of emails and THOUSANDS of pop-up ads that WILL NOT allow me to read any news content in peace!

The pop ups aren’t once & gone— I hit the X to clear, & they come back REPEATEDLY as I attempt to scroll down.
Often, hitting the X opens the ad, instead of clearing it! Then you must sit thru the ad several times, before the X finally clears it!
Scroll down on news content & whip! Here we go again!

Their ads seem impervious to pop-up blockers. Wayfair ads are the only ones that are this problematic.

It’s cyberstalking harassment, pure & simple.

I have resolved to buy NOTHING from WAYFAIR, EVER.

Some of us dirt poor folk enjoy finding budget friendly treasures on the curb, in thrift stores or at yard sales. It beats sitting at home shooting up or nose in your phone 24/7. Most every stick of our furniture was found by fun adventures and has lasted muuuuuch longer than store bought stuff. I have a free from junk pile end table and dining table I'm turning into something similar to this table top:

I'm totally with you... I once told a friend my 'style' of decorating was 'early garage sale'... One granddaughter stayed with us off and on for a year and she loved to yard sale. It was fun and I was amazed at the cool things we found.

My point was that young people - two parents both working with young children probably don't have the luxury of being able to spend that kind of time finding the perfect piece. And for them places like Wayfair are perfectly fine...
