Typically the women have the long, flowing hair and the men have crew cuts.
How did that come to be?
Seems back in olden days, men and women both had long hair.
Women in short hair do not look as good as with long hair.
But men can pull it off with long hair, although with a little more maintenance.
Just curious. Why not the long hair for everybody?

Long hair makes women look younger. Conversely, short hair makes men look younger.

The Bible calls for short hair on men. That’s where it probably started and caught on worldwide.
How short is a cultural matter. I think how short we have it today can be chalked up to the military culture in America.
Call me old-fashioned (but not caveman-fashioned) but I prefer short hair. There’s less to pick off my plate.
Generally, I prefer long-hair on women, but short hair is fine too. Seems like short hair would require less work.
Hygiene is one. Men in the field (war) need a way to be kept free of lice and other vermin.
This is ironic, given that Jesus is usually depicted with long, flowing hair.
Dude.....
I think long hair looks beautiful.
And at the same time, when a beautiful woman put her hair up she will look very stunning that way also.
But that is Still Different than having short hair.
Short hair on women is a huge turnoff to me but that’s personal taste, I guess.
Simple answer is in hand to hand combat, long hair is NOT a survival benefit. It gives you opponent something to grab onto from behind while attacking you to slit your throat or slip a knife into your kidneys.
Well,
You see Sam
It’s like hippies can’t
Afford haircuts and,

Who’s the “Babe?”
I used to have really, really long hair. It was very well cared for - better than any woman I knew.
I cut my hair because it was pulling on the follicles.. making me bald.
And there in lies the modern explanation.
long hair on girls so you dont get thrown off.
Men generally reach their peak status when they are fully mature. When their hair is thinning or falling out.
Long thinning hair around a bald spot... not so attractive, IMHO. Better to shorten it at some point.
And to keep an enemy soldier from grabbing them by the head.
I’ve had my hair short since my Marine Corps days. I’m thinking of growing it out again. Save money on haircuts. But likely I’ll have to spend more on shampoo and conditioner.
The Industrial Age required working men to wear short hair so as not to be swept up and injured by rotating power machinery
It is. I can’t stand long hair on a man, they look feminine, even if they’re muscular.
Short hair is far more practical. Does not get in your face. Does not have to elaborately arranged — usually just falls into places. Takes not time to wash. Dries far more quickly. It is also cooler in summer (though your scalp can sunburn more easily).
In war time, short hair is more easily cleaned. In a fight, you can easily grab on to long hair, but not short hair.
