Dems Envision "Smart Guns" [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 7 July 2019 | John Semmens

In their continuing quest to disarm the law-abiding segment of the US population, some key Democrats are envisioning a technological path toward this objective.

At the state level, Gov. Phil Murphy (NJ) pledges to sign legislation requiring every firearms dealer in the state to sell smart guns as soon as they become available from manufacturers. At the national level, former Vice-President Joe Biden is calling for "smart guns" to be made mandatory.

Biden claimed that "if James Bond is willing to use a smart gun, then lesser skilled law-enforcement officers and private individuals should be required to use them. Right now, millions of people rely on Alexa or Siri for a wide array of decisions. If people are willing to trust artificial intelligence for mundane choices there's no good reason why these technologies shouldn't be employed to make the final decision on whether or not to allow a user to discharge a firearm for so-called self-defense. Why let human emotions drive a life or death decision when the dispassionate intervention of an artificial intelligence can make a more logical choice for the collective welfare of society?"

I hear Slow Joe’s big on smart guns. In his case, one might actually make sense. Between him and the gun, they’d have a total IQ of probably 50 or so.

I’m reminded of the dumb dumb rounds sequence in Roger Rabbit.

Somebody's read "The Weapon Shops of Isher" by A/E. Van Vogt. The shops only sell smart guns. Of course the government wants to close them down, because the smart guns are as good or better than the governments guns. and the motto of the shops is " The right to own weapons is the right to be free". Chew on that democruds.

Be sure of this— a Federal mandate of “smart” guns and a requirement to turn in our existing guns WILL start a civil war. WE. WILL. NOT. COMPLY. DEATH to any tyrant that participates in such an unconstitutional abortion.

Democrats have no ability to think strategically.

They favor lawsuits against firearms manufacturers under a strict liability theory of law.

In such a world, what manufacturer will bring to marked a “self defense” weapon that requires complex interlocks that can go wrong? You can’t have it both ways.

Also since there are more firearms than people in the USA, how do you retrofit them with theoretical smart technology and if you can’t why wouldn’t people use the reliable old fashioned firearms?
