No it wasn’t.
When I was a young lad I was a musician. I played in a nostalgia band called Jade 50’s in the late 70’s and early 80’s. We were based out of Chicago. We use to play with Dick Clark Good Old Rock and Roll Shows all over the Midwest, we were the band for Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, The Coasters, Shirels, Freddy Cannon, Little Anthony and so on. In 1978 we got to play at the premier of the movie Grease, which was held at the Chicago Theater. We played before the movie and at the cast party afterword.
Funny because recently weve been watching these Grease intros and so on. Funny it should come up from someone else.
Fun stuff.
But no, not the greatest of all. Not nearly.
you’re right. The best ever was Mama Mia.
The Sound of Music was better, and timeless

But , yeah, Grease was pretty cool
Especially Olivia Newton John
Olivia had to be sewn into her black leather outfit, it was so form fitting. And the scene in the school auto shop was supposed to be about the lead dog in the auto club, but Travolta threw a fit so they made him the center of it.
How was it working with Chuck Berry? He had a reputation for being hard on backing bands. Or were you working more directly for whoever organized the Dick Clark shows rather than Berry himself?
God Bless Olivia Newton John. That woman could sing.
In the mid 70s, my parents went to one of her concerts.

Read an article that said the song Greased Lightning was supposed to be done by Jeff Conaway, but Travolta pulled rank. Also, the whole finale at the carnival was filmed in one day.
There was one dancer in there that was cute as all get out, and I ended up looking for her all through the movie. She was a slim brunette with shoulder length hair, and is the one in white shorts, keds and a blue top who jumps on the bench and over it with her arms in the air in the final dance number. I never saw her in anything else, and have always wondered if she shows her kids and grandkids the movie and points at herself whenever she comes on.
Animated by John Wilson, the British-American who did videos for the Sonny And Cher Show; the film Shinbone Alley etc
The song sucks and the musical isn’t in the same hemisphere as My Fair Lady or Camelot and many others.

Sandy was hotter before Frenchy gave her the makeover.

Damn Straight.
Shhh! Here’s a dirtysecret - It was!
Too funny!. I was in the 5th grade when Grease was released and was a big fan. I remember after watching the movie with neighborhood friends we would pretend to be cool and walk the streets. Sandra just fell in love and abandoned the innocent appearance. It happens.
Its up there but not nearly the class of Music Man, My Fair Lady, Show Boat or the R&H musicals. Basically nothing post65 is superb, and mostly verstunken PC crap.
In movies, the greatest ever is Singinin the Rain, hands down! Great story, comedy and music all in one short to-the-point power-packed film!
