Dem debates Round 1: Lots of free stuff, but nobody was asked how they’ll pay for it
The National Sentinel ^ | 6/28/19 | Jon Dougherty

To just about every American not in government, debts matter. Spending matters. Personal and family debt levels matter.

That’s because those of us here in flyover country have to pay our bills. We can’t just buy, buy, buy and spend, spend, spend — putting everything on credit for our progeny to pay off. Or not.

But that’s how our government has treated spending and debt for decades. Remember the last time the federal government ran a budget surplus? I do; it was during the final years of the otherwise scandal-plagued Clinton administration.

A ‘third way’ Democrat and, by today’s standards, the last ‘centrist,’ Clinton worked with a GOP-controlled Congress to balance the federal books. According to records, the U.S. government ran budget surpluses from 1998 through 2001; deficit spending began again in 2002 with the Bush administration (much of that due to increased spending for the just-begun war on terror).

It’s a silly question. Just put them in charge, and they’ll print more money!

That’s the level of economic understanding of the average American, by design.

Obviously tax the rich; anyone making over 100k a year pays 70% - get them down to poverty level where they can control them better.

All of these clowns remind me of the kid that wanted to be a stand up comedian in the original movie, “Fame”. He performed to a packed house of his school buddies an he was a big hit. They loved him.

Later in the film he played to a house where it was only people that didn’t know him. He bombed.

These candidates are playing to their buddies (CNN, et al). Wait’ll they have to play to the nation, including those that ask tough questions. It will go, um, differently.

Because they aren’t going to pay for it.

We are.

Any "debate moderator" who asked such a question would be looking for a job very quickly, and would never work in the MSM again.

The electorate has the economic understanding of a toad. AOC is an econ major, and doesn’t know enough to pass an Intro econ class test. When are people going to realize that nothing is free and the gov’t produces nothing...it simply redirects resources.

If you really want to know how the Dem Socialist traitors to America will pay for their free hand-outs, just look to Canada where the socialists have been in power for over 40 years, elected via hand out mentality.

Right now Canada and its provinces have has an effective combined 17% GST on processed goods, and a national carbon tax on fuel.

And still these Scoialists in Canada have not screwed working men and women quite enough. They simply PRINT more money so they will have it to “spend” on their “free” hand outs. That’s what the Dems will do. They will print more and more US dollars to have the money to spend on their giveaways, diluting the US dollar to a former shadow of itself, and destroying the US dollar as the worlds reserve currency, handing the reserve currency world wide status over to China.

There is NOTHING at all good about these nationalist socialist , liberal fascist “give aways.” They are actually treasonous activity, designed to destroy our US entrepreneurial, capitalist culture and our world wide economic dominance.

Pay?? Ha. Next you’ll be wanting to ask:

- How much of a Citizen’s life is ‘owed’ to govt?
- At what % does tax == slavery
- By what authority these programs/’laws’ can exist (presuming ‘Commerce’, please follow-up vs. all Amendments)

According to records, the U.S. government ran budget surpluses from 1998 through 2001

We called it Creative Accounting because the National Debt went UP every one of those Years stated to have a "Surplus", proving that 2+2=5

Or tax the heck out of us all. The young folks have to be worried because, when we old timers are dead and gone, they’ll have to pay the bill when it comes due.

Yet, they probably don’t know this.

“Yet, they probably don’t know this.”

They definitely don’t know it. There is a reason that schools don’t teach civics or economics.

Free healthcare for all including illegals and stripping away private health insurance is a big time loser. I cannot imagine soccer moms wanting their family “corporate subsidized” healthcare taken away.

The national debt actually fell slightly in a couple of those years.

It would be interesting to find out what the budget and consumption rate was for social programs for those years.

I am guessing that it was a small fraction of what it is today. And yet we are piling on by offering free stuff to millions of people who are illegal (who take more from the system than they produce).

That is why it is up to us to educate them. A lot of us have family and young people who will be stuck with the tab when we are gone.

There was a massive stock market bubble.

This created a number of revenue-positive dynamics for the government.

First the capital gains taxes coming in were huge.

Also all the capital going into start-ups created a jobs boom that meant payroll taxes rose sharply. These were years of big surpluses for SS and Medicare cash-flows.

The “peace dividend” was still in effect, with military spending incredibly low. Meanwhile Gingrich and Clinton had passed reforms that led to lower entitlement spending on Medicare, a huge achievement.

All of that unwound quickly. The stock market bubble crashed, the “peace dividend” turned into huge defense needs, and the baby boomers began retiring driving entitlements into deficit.
