It wasnt twenty years ago today, as the Beatles once sang only four, to be exact (though at times, it feels like two decades).
And while Donald Trump isnt Sgt. Pepper, he has succeeded in making American march to a different beat.
It was four years ago on this date that Trump did the improbable he descended down a Trump Tower escalator and leapt into a busy Republican primary field. Some of us who follow these things for a living refused to take him seriously at the time. That includes yours truly. I thought Trump was trying to leverage more money out of NBC, in exchange for another season of The Apprentice.
My other flawed assumption: once Trump had to dig deeper into his pocket to fly around the country and build viable organizations in Iowa and New Hampshire, hed find a way to declare victory and retreat. All it would take: a rival Republican or two to make trade agreements and the border wall centerpieces of their campaigns....

Nope. I was an early adopter of Trump. They day he gave that reporter grief he earned my support. He is a fighter, and I am tired of the GOP.
The morons are still underestimating the power of the people who support President Trump.
Just watch: Until November of next year we’ll be hit will poll after poll telling us how Trump will be defeated and then election night will be a repeat of 2016...

I jumped on the Trump train early too. for me it was just that I liked a candidate that was a bit out there, who said what others wouldn’t.
I picked him the day he came down the escalator since he said just the opposite about immigration than the GOP. I knew people would quietly agree.
If I wasn’t the actual first Freeper to back Trump, I certainly was in the top 10.
Was big on Cruz at first but Trump was just obnoxious enough to make me feel he could lead and he was and is a great businessman, anti-war, wanted a wall. He spoke my language and when he finally told Hillary( sort of stalking around like a tiger) “You would be in jail,” I damned near cried with glee.
Lot’s of stuff haven’t happened yet but he’s our only hope and he’s done a heck of a lot with 99% of all media hating him, almost all the House, the senate and his own executive branch. He’s moving mountains with our prayers.
I still like to laugh at Joy Reid and Laurence O’Donnell.
They were absolutely positive Trump had no chance to win the Republican nomination and then they were absolutely positive that Trump had no chance to win the election.
Initially, I was a Cruz supporter albeit not an enthusiastic supporter.
But when Trump came down and spoke on the border invasion, I was all in...1,000%.
The last time I was so into a Presidential candidate was Ronaldus Magnus when i was in grad school. I never thought I would see another pro-American President again.
Trump is our last hope to saving our Constitutional Republic and culture.
We weren’t supposed to be able to elect a President who would side with the citizens and the rule of law.
The GOP had US in a box voting endlessly for their amnesty candidates who were really Democrats in R jerseys.
The last two didn’t even try to win.
Been with Trump, since (before) he came down the escalator.
Even if I sometimes complain, he is everything, I had hoped.
With the possible exception, I think he is nowhere near, tough enough on China.
But otherwise, 100% for him. For real.
Having lived in North Eastern Pennsylvania I knew when he came down that elevator that he was the next POTUS...you can tell what type a person is good and one that is phony...just look at the lib clown tribe this coming election, that’s all you have to see...
Our President will be running another 4 years, and if we can get rid of the libs in both the House and Senate, we can have him for 8 more after this 4!!!
God Bless This Man You Choose As Our President!!!
A day after Trump came down the elevator I said was going to switch from supporting Cruz to supporting Trump. Because immigration and the border was the number one issue and nobody else was going to do a thing about it. Then a bunch of people here said, “Then you are a liberal!”
I wasn’t paying too much attention at the time, and was like “why?” about it.
When he slammed McCain that first time, I was like “Well there goes that run”.
Then I asked myself “Well is he wrong?”, and I couldn’t say no. A couple of months later (Sept. 2015), there was a post on FR about the size of his rallies which was amazing for a pre-primary event, and I said to myself “There is something here”, and slowly moved from expecting Cruz to being a Trump supporter in late Nov of 15.
At the time, I remember being surprised he actually made his candidacy official as he had been teasing about running for at least two decades. At the time, it looked like Jeb Bush was going to be a shoo-in so I was happy that Trump was in. Not that I gave Trump any real chance at that time but I knew he was capable of rattling some cages and really shaking things up. I watched his announcement speech on YouTube the next day and was impressed.
Over the next few weeks, he was under constant fire from the media and it looked like his campaign might implode at any time. I half-expected him to drop out of the race in a huff, telling us "I don't need this crap" - sort of like what Ross Perot did in 1992. After all, like Perot, he was a billionaire businessman who really didn't need to prove anything to anybody.
I'll never forget the moment when I realized he would actually have an excellent chance of winning. It was at a Phoenix rally around the middle of July. Something like 15,000 people showed up and Trump was absolutely mobbed with admirers. I think he was still using his own security team then and they were clearly overwhelmed. Trump also had an impromptu news conference that day in which he presented some people whose family members were killed by illegal aliens. It was then that I realized he was pretty much unstoppable so far as the nomination went.
Poor "low energy" Jeb Bush, that man was totally destroyed. Trump ran over him like a Mack truck.
I had supported Cruz over Trump because Trump had no record and had previously described himself as pro-choice. I was mistaken at the time in my assessment on his likely performance, but from the very beginning I had stated that if Trump got the nomination he would beat Mrs. Clinton and it wouldnt be very close. That part I got right.
I remember the Cruzbots crying. Some still do...
I'm 67 and I think he's the best president of my lifetime. He's a true leader. I'm impressed by his stamina, his ability to focus, and his steadfastness despite the media, the Democrats, the swamp, and a lot of Republicans trying to tear him down.
I heard the announcement and thought, oh, he’s running? Then I forgot about it until the first GOP debate. After that, I was in.
I liked what I heard in that first speech he gave next to the escalator. He was clearly different than all the other candidates and was boldly embracing ‘dangerous’ policies like building the wall. I’d say after about two weeks of cautious optimism regarding Trump I finally decided he was the real deal, and he became my first choice. I had been supporting Cruz up till then.
