Businessman and 2020 presidential hopeful Andrew Yang broke with other Democrats when he admonished the party's focus on identity poliitcs leading up to the next election.
"I understand the impulse, but identity politics are a great way to lose elections," he said on Saturday. "We need to bring people together."
Many Democrats have decried the impacts of President Trump's policies on minorities and women during his first term in office. In addition, the "identity politics" debate has progressed as former Vice President Joe Biden announced this past week he no longer could support the Hyde Amendment of 1976, which restricts federal funding for most abortions. Many other Democrats running to unseat Trump in 2020 have come out against the amendment.

They took a BIG HIT when my parents (Americans of Italian descent) and MILLIONS of others just like them said “#### this identity politics, the dems don’t DO ANYTHING for us!” back in the late 60s.
Now Spanish folks, if polls are correct, are beginning to realize that.
Hell, even black men “only” went for hillary 78 percent.
That sounds like a crazy statement but what if they had gone 97 percent, as usual?
Do we still win some of those close swing states?
All it took was a Trump to say “what have they done for you lately?”

As an Asian-American with an Asian name, Andrew Yang has no chance of winning even 1% of Democratic presidential support without identity politics, which will bring him at least some Asian-American votes. Yet he decries identity politics?
If Andrew Yang’s name were Andrew Smith, would he receive a single vote?

I agree. Identity politics is the only way forward for ethnic minorities (even the successful ones) in the Dem party. That is because the party itself has established the sacrament of identity-driven victimhood as the most reliable template for political fruition. Yang is crazy to cutoff the very branch from which he needs to leap forward...
Apparently Mr. Wang didn’t get the DNC email.
He’s right of course so the big boy RATS in the DNC and the donor class will make sure Mr. Yang doesn’t gain any traction in the nomination race. Not that he was going to have an impact anyways. He’s too “honest” for a party that believes in lies, lies and more lies!
Today I saw the first yard sign in my area for the 2020 race, and it was for Andrew Yang.
