Here are two examples of idiots on Mt. Everest who should not be allowed to be there

The New York Times recently published this article about the relatively large number of recent deaths on Mt. Everest.

The article states:

Some climbers did not even know how to put on a pair of crampons, clip-on spikes that increase traction on ice, Sherpas said.

People like that should not be allowed on the mountain.

This is from the same article. The bolding is mine:

“I saw some people like they had no emotions,” he said. “I asked people for water and no one gave me any. People are really obsessed with the summit. They are ready to kill themselves for the summit.”

This person also has no business being on the mountain. It’s not other people’s responsibility to bring water for him. It’s his own responsibility.

There are more climbers up there waiting to get to the Summit than there are at Dem rallies

Saw a documentary on Everest once. Climbers get socked with heavy fees because everything they haul up there (food, human waste, etc.) has to either be consumed or hauled down by local guides.

There are also a few scattered corpses of climbers who didn't make arrangements to be hauled down in the event of their demise. If the next of kin is unavailable or otherwise unable to pay to bring them down, they stay.

I can't really see the motivation to join this crowd on an expensive and dangerous journey, but there seems to be no shortage of takers.

She took a selfie on Mount Everest

She’ll be...
tumbling down Mount Everest when she comes,
She’ll be broken, frozen shattered when she comes.
She’ll be flying through the cold air
screaming, “Help me, don’t just stand there!”
And still texting from her iPhone with her thumbs.

‘Just ask a teenage girl.’

That would be kind of painful if she tried.

The New York Times recently published this article

So you decided to stick it on your blog and get some credit for it.

I’m a little sick of the constant attacks on Freepers who have blogs. I don’t notice or care I just want to read the stories. If blogs aren’t allowed, ok. If they are allowed, then ....

Its a great point. The mortality rate for climbing Everest is, I believe, about 8%.

It is literally a “life and death proposition” and bloody expensive too. If you can’t manage every detail yourself, don’t go.

I'm sorry about that.

I don’t notice or care I just want to read the stories.

Wow. Sources are irrelevant, huh?

I personally appreciate knowing when being directed to some site just to produce blog hits.

If I had a blog, and wanted to share its content with fellow FReepers, I would certainly not excerpt it, as many do.

It does seem a bit deceptive for FReepers to be more concerned about getting blog hits, than in sharing something with FR.

JMHO

This reminds me of that idiot French couple who died at White Sands National Monument a couple years ago. I translated a French news version of the story and one of the comments mentioned similar idiots in the Alps trying to walk around on glaciers in tennis shoes.
These morons are everywhere.
