Should Colleges Offer Affirmative Action for the Female Majority?
James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal ^ | May 24, 2019 | Kursat Pekgoz

Academic postmodernism is no stranger to the idea that classical Enlightenment values such as reason, equal treatment, and individual agency should be cast aside for the sake of racial and sexual grievances. We should denounce reason and science as the legacy of “dead white men”—or so we are told.

Western academia has become both ideologized and infantilized, perhaps not unlike a giant kindergarten ruled over by a class of partisan bureaucrats who employ increasingly Orwellian tactics: censorship, data falsification, morality policing, doublethink, doublespeak.

There is one paradox central to American identity politics that not only runs afoul of Supreme Court doctrine but also basic Aristotelian logic. What, exactly, is the purpose of having affirmative action for women in today’s academia?

I understand that the popular meaning of the phrase may create some confusion. Most people ordinarily associate “affirmative action” with racial preferences in college admissions. But affirmative action is by no means limited to the use of racial preferences, nor does it only cover college admissions. Affirmative action for women, who now constitute an ever-increasing majority on college campuses, is rampant in today’s academia.

The bias against men in the American education system is as pervasive as it is well-documented.

Consider that 77 percent of all teachers in the public education system are women, that girls have higher grades than boys in all categories, and that numerous studies “have shown that stereotyping [by female teachers] can bias teachers’ assessment and grades” against boys.

Women are the majority of law students and medical students. Women earn the majority of doctorate degrees in the health and medical (80 percent), biological (56 percent), and social/behavioral (63 percent) sciences. Concerns over the underrepresentation of women in STEM education are outdated. Indeed, women are at a two-to-one advantage over men in STEM faculty hiring.

I've read that since most college students are female, many selective liberal arts colleges give some preference to male applicants.

There shouldn’t be any affirmative action, period. The best way to identify those who will rise above their current situation is to hold them to the standard that demonstrates that they have indeed done so.

Affirmative Action is gender/race based discrimination, purely and simply!

There is no place for gender/race based discrimination in America!

All that should matter is MERIT AND CONTENT OF CHARACTER!

Let em do it. Make college degrees more worthless.

Better to hit rock bottom and get it over with.

Assign each application a number, and let a random number generator pick who will be accepted.

I remember in college I had a class on business communication, we did presentations and resumes, etc.. - many commented how mine was the best, only to get a “B”. I then noted a girl that I thought was “not good at all” and saw she received an “A”.

I don’t know how systemic the problem is but when I went to my sons college graduation it seemed as though it was 85% females.

There was a move under the last administration (spit) to have Title IX allocate athletic funds by proportion of students rather than the 50:50 that basically destroyed men’s college sports outside of football/basketball.

I recently attended my daughter's graduation. I also noted that much more than 50% of the class was female.

And I noticed something else: scattered through the graduating class, there were a few women who covered their head and refused to shake hands with the man handing out diplomas. There were also a few men named Mohammad who graduated. Not a lot. It's something to be expected in a multicultural society.

But what REALLY caught my attention was the graduates of the Medical Information discipline. These are the people who oversee digital information related to sensitive HIPAA records. About 20 people graduated in this specialty. Two of them -- two of them were NOT Muslim.

I don't know what that says, but it sure must say something.

White male Christians and Jews are square in the cross hairs for good reason in the minds of the fascist left. We are a threat to their power grabs, desire for total control and willingness to use any measure to gain their goals. They use self hating white males to further their efforts and never relent in their forward movement. Nor do they have set goals, every achievement is grounds to press forward to even more goals. The homosexual movement is a perfect example. It went from just wanting to be in the open to demanding acceptance to now demanding approval.

Give a preference to the majority?

I’d call that gender privilege, wouldn’t you?

Ironically in California, the white and asian females with great grades and SAT scores, may be the people suffering from the worst discrimination re being accepted into college.

That happened to one of our younger relatives a couple of years ago. She had one B and A’s all of her life. She was the top Math student in her middle school and was graduated with top honors from an excellent private school. She wanted to be a nurse.

Zero California Nursing Universities or Stem schools would accept her. She was accepted at every out of state school, where she applied. She got a $100k 4 year scholarship at an out of state school with an excellent RN program.

Close friends had a granddaughter go through the same BS, this year. She wants to be a Vet and was not accepted in California.

She was not only accepted at an excellent out of state school, she will, get a $100 K 4/year scholarship. Then, she will be eligible for more scholarships if her grades are good.

More irony: A male sibling of our female relative above, was accepted at 9 good engineering school, including two in California.

A male cousin of the second young lady was accepted at every California and out of state engineering school that he applied to. A couple of good schools apparently got a heads up from his teachers, and he got offers without applying.

These 4 young people are quote “white people”. The males were accepted and the females turned down here in California.

They need to recruit more women fast to take all the women’s studies and gender studies classes or those new professors hired recently won’t be there long enough to get tenure.

Yes, men (boys) are grossly underrepresented in colleges.

Their gumption has been stomped out of them. Many drop out of high school and have less drive and ambition than women (Rush’s chickification of America).

Far more women in college already.

Lots of colleges actually offer affirmative action for young men at this point, because they are deathly afraid of reaching the 60% female tipping point at which young women lose interest in applying to the school.

Now, some specific STEM departments unfortunately apparently engage in A-A for female students, but more generally the bias increasingly is toward males, because they have a harder time getting an equal number of applicants, including qualified applicants, from that sex.

Men? Women? Aren’t those things that are old, sexist and partriarchy-based falsehoods? Can’t someone just choose what they are on any given day, based on how they feel?

All BS aside, I simply cannot wait for the first mentally-defective jackass with a package who insists that HE is a woman who doesn’t get favorable treatment as a woman to sue the ever-living F out of some university. I really cannot wait, because then this utterly insane nonsense will go all the way to the Supreme Court, and then we should have a sane decision (i.e. that men are defined as humans with and X and a Y chromosome in their cells, and that all other humans are females).
