For several weeks now, The Highway has been playing a song called "No Place" by Backstreet Boys and calling it a country song when it's really not.
Not that there is any lack of decent new country songs to play such as that "Rainbow" song by that girl whose name I can't remember and also "Prayed For You" by Matt Stell as well as "God's Country" by Blake Shelton. I even like that newcomer Gabby Barrett with that song about how she was dumped by her boyfriend and is now wishing that his new girlfriend will cheat on him like he cheated on her. Or something along those lines.
I know there's more important things to be talking about tonight but I figured I'd come here and put up a post in the "Bloggers and Personal" category because, I believe, this is why that category was created. So people can come here and post nonsense and other more serious-minded folk can ignore the "Bloggers & Personal" category altogether and spare themselves from drivel such as this.
But I should be so lucky. I just know some Freepers are going to come over here - to my Blogger and Personal space - and chastise me for putting up a bunch of nonsense about so-called country music. Also, they are going to go on about how country music today does not measure up to the days of George Jones, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn. But I listen to that stuff too. I just don't hear it on the Highway, I go over to the Willie's Roadhouse station, which is pretty darn good by the way.
Anyhow, I'm posting the whole thing here so will not have to click through to my blog, where people pay big bucks to hear my opinions on things. I'm giving it up for free here on the Free Republic.
Country music. Not so bad overall. Even the new stuff. But Backstreet Boys? No way. That's not country.
If it don’t reference Momma, Prison, Trains or Trucks, it ain’t a country song.
What?
Or gittin drunk.
At some point, I'm going to post about my instant on-demand tankless hot water heater. Totally fascinated with that contraption. What will they think up next?
“I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison”
Good call.
David Allan Coe...and I didn’t even have to pull up an Internet search.
You don’t have to call me darlin’, darlin’.
A little antidote in case of emergency while reading the thread. This one has a little of both kinds of music. Country and western.

Says it all.
ROFL!!!!!
LOL
“Don’t go breaking my heart” is a JAM! I’m really not a Backstreet Boys fan, but when that song came out last year, it rocked. Great comeback.
What about “who says you cant go home” by Bon Jovi years ago?
It reached the charts in country.
It just seemed like a likable mellow ROCK song to me.
But i know almost NOTHING about what constitutes country.
I figure if a southerner is singing it and he’s singing about how his life is a ####ing mess, then it’s country :)
Much of what the “top 40” country station plays doesn’t seem country to me. My teenager calls it “hick-hop”. On Sirius, listen to Prime Country.
Whatta guy.
Bad rock with a fiddle. - Tom Petty
Modern Country and Western music sucks. Thats all.
LMAO. Its either country or its Tom Petty. :)
Best non-country country song ...
