Good bye Jerry, another of the Greatest Generation

Posted on 05/16/2019 12:21:22 PM PDT by Jolla

My friend Jerry passed, great guy, 86 his dad was an immigrant Russian Jew, Jerry grew up in California Air Force - Cal Tech engineer - worked for a NASA team in the 60s through Gemini, made it up as they went and needed a problem solved. The world and the girls (looked like Joe Namath in the day which he used to his advantage) are going to miss him.

May he enjoy his trip to heaven.

We got a call this morning telling us that one of our friends died.

He was a B17 pilot with 25 missions in WWII. His plane was one of many based in England. He flew many Daylight missions.

The B-17 was primarily employed by the USAAF in the daylight strategic bombing campaign of World War II against German industrial and military targets. The United States Eighth Air Force, based at many airfields in central and southern England, and the Fifteenth Air Force, based in Italy, complemented the RAF Bomber Command’s nighttime area bombing in the Combined Bomber Offensive to help secure air superiority over the cities, factories and battlefields of Western Europe in preparation for the invasion of France in 1944.

No disrespect intended, but I thought the “greatest generation” referred to those that fought in WWII or supported it on the home front. Jerry was about 8 when the US entered the war in 1941.

A lot of people don’t realize that the 8th Air Force suffered more casualties during World War 2 than the entire Marine Corps.

Did you really post this??? He’s sharing about his friend. You do see how inappropriate your post is, correct?
