The California Assembly on Monday advanced a bill to add school faculty, employers and co-workers to the list of people who can ask a judge to take away someones guns.
The measure, AB 61, passed the Assembly in a Democrat-heavy 54-16 vote and now heads to the state Senate. It would greatly expand who can file for a Gun Violence Restraining Order in the state under Californias so-called red flag law.
Adopted in 2014, the current law allows the seizure of firearms for up to 21 days from an otherwise legal gun owner who is believed to pose a significant danger. This initial order could be extended for as long as a year if the situation warrants while filing a false petition is a misdemeanor offense. As it stands, just law enforcement and immediate family can seek such an order. AB 61 would expand this to include school employees such as guidance counselors and teachers as well as the employers and co-workers of a subject.
Second Amendment groups such as the Firearms Policy Coalition and Gun Owners of California, who have long felt the orders were a dangerous pathway to gun confiscation without delivering any promise of treatment for someone in legitimate crisis, are opposed to the expansion.
According to the state Department of Justice, GVROs have been issued 614 times from 2016 to the end of 2018.
Major Hochstedder would find himself at home in the governorship.
“New amendment soon to allow that A-Hole neighbor to file seizure orders too?”
Even in “Red States” you’ve got plenty of those creeping up in your neighborhoods.
Nightingale Island is looking better & better by the day.
This is in addition to TRO’s issued in divorces.
“If you have to hide them we have lost already.”
Nonsense! You need not bate your adversary. It’s why people carry concealed. Guns are for YOUR protection, not something to have so you can brag about having them. I am just saying it’s where we are today. EVERY incident where a gun is misused, just provides more pretext for the Left to pursue trying to undermine the 2A. A firearms trainer someone posted here on FR last week said the same thing as I have.
Glad I pulled the plug last year. I got a bit crossways with a he/she where I was working. He’d have no problem red flagging me.
(side note. A lady I worked with said “he should either shave, or take off the dress!”. Cracked me up)
Here is a couple of articles you might find interesting.
I respectfully disagree with you if you are hiding they have all ready won a major part of the part of the battle.

Imagine the misuse of this. Very bad idea.
Thankfully I dont live in California. Still, if this were to pass and I somehow ran into Newsome, I might address him as Herr Honecker.
Screw you! Im in Texas!
California the Granola State: What isn’t fruits or nuts is flakes
Now its "co-workers" (cuz nobody you work with would lie about you....)
Anonymous reporting is about 30 days away......
Shaking my head in disbelief.
“I never thought it would be the play book of the democrat party.”
They are attacking on every possible front and they play hardball. And and I am afraid the reality is that they hate us and they want us dead.
Californian citizens should start expressing “extreme fear”, allege mental illness, bizarre behavior, etc. from Ca. legislators, the governor and his private guards, and state police and have their weapons taken away.
“..This will only lead to more loss of freedom....”
That IS the intent.
Hmmm, what do you do in the Nazi state with long guns your taking into your home from a trip out target shooting or hunting or whatever? Turn off the lights and bring them in at 1:00 am? Wrap them up in curtain rod boxes?

Yeah, right! Use some common sense. We carry our long guns in cases normally, and since we live on enough land that we don’t look into our neighbors homes, it’s not an issue.
Creative too..
