Leaving out the fact that the top 1% pay around 38% of all income taxes---more than the bottom 90% combined and 40-something % don't pay federal income taxes,
all of Bernie's proposals to "stop" 'the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality' guarantee everybody at the same poverty base level, except for the few well connected, in every single place that practiced his socialism/communism.
As for Jeff Bezos' wealth, is it fair? I don't know. His Amazon company fulfilled a need for millions of customers (by undercutting other companies and probably making less profits).
I don't have to buy stuff from Amazon, however I do like to have that choice available to me. I do not have envy for Bezos and I certainly don't want either federal or local gubmint to replace that need if Sanders has his ways.
Take a pay cut and give 2 of your homes to the homeless you fat Stalinist stooge.
Like you do, senator?...................
Is he talking about his own bank account? With him making over a million bucks a year, perhaps he should start at home.
‘the grotesque level of income and wealth inequality’
I think he’s just going through the motions. Income inequality isn’t a hot button issue. But he’s a socialist, so he doesn’t know what else to talk about.
Bernie, lead by example, donate 2 of your 3 homes to the cause.
Hey, we can’t all be elected to office to get grotesquely rich. Someone has to work to pay their salaries.
He’s got some cheek, LOL!
Tell Bernie it’s his turn to spend a couple of years digging ditch on the Peoples’ Farm.
The tax rates aren’t the problem. The problem is all of the deductions, exemptions and write offs. The actual rates for the wealthy and big businesses, if they were being paid, are close to where they should be. But because of all the loopholes that have been inserted into the tax code, very few people at the high end of the socio-economic scale pay more than 10-15% in taxes and a lot of very profitable businesses, like Amazon, pay none at all. This is welfare for the rich. Wall Street does not need anymore handouts.
We need to purge the tax code of all these loopholes.
And what is their fair share??
Tax everyone the same across the board? That would be fair.
He's right but he proposes the WRONG solution.
Yep. Nothing keeping Bernie from selling all of his homes and donated everything he has to the gubmint.
We need a tariff and not an income tax.
Bernie’s schtick is to say, “the rich are getting richer at the expense of the middle class”.
What he doesn’t say is that, right now, the middle class is moving toward wealth, too (and even the “poor”!).
So, what happens is, to make wealth equitable, taxes must necessarily be raised on all mobile levels of society...the middle class will be paying more taxes, too. Both direct and indirect.
He ignores that the “rich getting richer” is what causes the middle class to move toward wealth (and the “poor”!). If we desire a “chicken in every pot”, we must remember that government doesn’t raise chickens, the wealthy do.
I think I will pass on the Ted talk on economics by a disheveled someone who looks like he fell off the back of a truck and someone rushed over to put a tie on him before ushering him to the podium.
Bernie, you lost your relevance when Stalin died.
Says the millionaire.
I’m middle class, and I’m fine with the current system. But then, I saw my son go from truck driver, to being fired unjustly, to staring his own firm, burying the company that fired him.
Sure, he’s rich, but it is because he made good decisions. I’m not rich. I’m middle class. But I made different decisions. And neither one of us is absorbed with how much money we make compared to other people.
That’s what socialists and communists do. And let’s be frank. They are not trying to help the poor. Rather, they just envy the rich or, like in Bernie’s case, they feel guilty that they are rich because they know they didn’t work for it.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.Winston Churchill
