Hollywood: Do You Know Why You’re in Georgia?

After Georgia lost out to Louisiana on the production of Ray (the film about Georgia native Ray Charles) in 2008, then Georgia governor -- now U.S. Secretary of Agriculture -- Sonny Perdue, a Republican, signed tax-incentive legislation that was intended to lure the film industry to Georgia. It worked, and in a big way. Georgia is now often referred to as “the Hollywood of the South.” However, the way things are trending in film production, California may soon seek to become “the Georgia of the West.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, a report by Atlanta’s NBC News affiliate “11-Alive” described Georgia as “the top filming location in the world.” In 2016 and 2017, Georgia led the U.S. in the number of top-grossing feature films produced. ...

Good explanation of the big Georgia kerfuffle.

Not being (a) Georgian, or (b) a big movie follower I was curious why some of the celeb-maggots were upset at the pro-life laws going on there.

You'd think that these non-high school graduate actors might look at the current state of CGI technology and realize that their jobs are in serious peril from computerization.

I think there was a recent movie where they made old geezer actors young again, and it was seamless.

In Star Wars: Rogue One, they had a completely CGI'd version of Peter Cushing. Because the movie was set before the first Star Wars movie, Cushing's character needed to be in it, and Cushing has been dead for many years. So they CGI'd him.

"...current state of CGI technology..."

That's exactly why I don't care much for modern movies.

We've taken our family camping, rafting, rapelling and climbing. Phony movie effects are boring.

This is Angels' Landing in Zion N.P.

They also de-aged many of the actors who flew against the death star as X-Wing and Y-Wing pilots in the original Star Wars movie. The Battle at Scarif was a really cool scene.

I doubt filmmakers could use an existing actor’s likeness without his approval. But they could do one better: invent their own. No more casting ; they would just design the characters the same way they design sets and costumes. They could even synthesize the voices.

At that point, “actor” becomes “waiter.”

Yeah...I was wondering about that too. Makes sense that there’s a spike in crybaby commies in JoJa!

They did a good job of that in the animated film Beowulf. Several of the characters, like Anthony Hopkins and Brendan Gleason and Angelina Jolie were based on the actors who voiced them. But Beowulf was voiced by a balding out of shape Ray Winstone; so they created a handsome virile stud-muffin heroic character to go with his voice. It will be interesting if they start doing this in live action movies.

These fools in Hollywood don’t realize that most actors and many associated jobs are going to be extinct with new technology. Technology can put anybody or anything on the screen anywhere at anytime for the fraction of the cost without having to pay retards millions.

There hasn’t been a good movie out of Georgia since Smokey and the Bandit in 1977.

Yes, let the high school drop-outs wail for now.

Very soon, they'll be using The Method to ask us if we'd "like fries with that".

Not a movie but TV show: the Walking Dead.
Best show ever. Filmed in GA.

They did not need to do that. They could have met him at the voting booth and signed him up for the gig right there!

Young Michael Douglas has a starring role in both Ant Man movies, alongside old Michael Douglas.

Agree. I have thought for some time that todays actors will someday go the way of silent movie stars.......OBSOLETE. And it really wouldn’t break my heart either.
