Marines’ TOP general let internal memo leak opposing Trump’s use of funds for border wall

If you still wondered what kind of opposition POTUS Donald Trump faces on a daily basis to any and all of his efforts to staunch the flow of illegal immigration and regain operational control over our southwest border, this will serve as just the latest example.

In a highly improper and extremely controversial move, the Marine Corps’ top commander, Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert Neller, let a pair of internal memos leak to NBC News and the Los Angeles Times in an attempt to embarrass his commander-in-chief over is decision to shift some Pentagon funding to border wall construction, Newsweek is reporting.

In particular, Neller is upset that funding to repair one of the service’s two primary training bases, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, following Hurricane Florence — which damaged more than 900 buildings at the base — still hasn’t arrived six months later.

“....it was certainly not the General....”

I’m not sure it makes any difference who leaked it. He’s the one who takes the responsibility at the lowest level of command in this case. It’s his keyster. Of course he could try to pass the buck but his failure to stop the original leak still is in the face of the president and the secretary of defense who trusted him to control his members to keep from this type of action. And someone will have to take the hit. Who is going to be chosen to fall on the sword? It’s easy to retire a general officer at this level and a lot harder to article 15 or corp martial a lower ranking troop with the media just waiting for an opportunity to blow that one up.

It seems unlikely he leaked the memos; however, given the current Dem Socialist frontal attack on our government, we are talking bare knuckle politics with our national security.

On the contrary. It seems highly likely he had his staff leak the memo. The military absolutely do not want to defend the southern border. And I would bet my house those defending the disloyalty of the military brass shown toward their CIC agree with that policy position.

Generals are basically POLITICIANS, and most of them are LIBERAL.

My dad retired from the Army as a LtCol when he was 47. I asked him why he didn't stay in and move up to the flag ranks. He told me that every rank above his was political in nature, and that it wasn't what he signed up for.

“Your threatening (and illegal) response proves my point.”

Pinch your nose when you say that. It’ll sound about right. If you ever served a day, it was as an admin pogue or something.

You need to spend a few terms in the Marine Corps, learn what its mission is, what it's history is, how many personnel it has and where they are stationed, and how Marine Corps supply works before you will be in a position to evaluate whether or not the specific statement was untoward.

Leaving the main base for the entire Second Division partially damaged is a heavy detriment to force readiness and the truth of that isn't impacted in any way by what boards the Commandant had honorary positions on.

After you accomplish that (assuming you are not too damned lazy or cowardly - a huge assumption given the context of this conversation) you might look into whether the general in question really leaked this to the press or not.

We have had some really bad Commandants (PX Kelly) but this isn't one of them.

Semper Fidelis.

Generals have since at least WWI or WWII

Been political

To be honest politics start at full birds

You want to get past lieutenant colonel you have to start politicking

It was that way when my dad was in

Suppose CAPE or some other bureaucracy in OSD let it leak. Let’s just fire all the generals now.

The military absolutely do not want to defend the southern border.

It's not that the MIC doesn't want to defend the border, it's that they couldn't care either way. That is, they are agnostic about border control.

Reduced to bare essentials, the military foundation is based on fighting other military forces, whether organized or disorganized. To put it another way, the only way towards officer career advancement is via kinetic action aka kill or be killed.

This is why it was the height of stupidity for Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and the USSR to try and attempt to face the USA head on. But, with a fair assessment of how successful Islam, MX and China have been subsequent to those events, it can be safe to say that opposing countries have learned their lessons well.

Who here believes the southern invasion, the Muzzie European(re)conquest or global Chinese encroachment (Africa/S America) are not well planned, directed and executed foreign policy initiatives? But unless these threats amount to actual mano vs mano fighting, the MIC simply has no dog in the fight.

I for one have no doubt the Chinese are secretly pleased they are getting their revenge against the UK/West for hundreds of years of exploitation. So too Putin and Russia - they're playing the long game, and by the look of things plan on winning.

As thousands of years of history has shown, there is no defense against internal corruption and/or population/cultural substitution unless the civilian authority decides to act. If they fail to do so, the MIC will eventually get involved, but by that time it will be engaged in a civil war with outside threats leveraging the internecine conflict.

Put it this way, you don’t to be a general without more than one tour at the Pentagon. In Washington.
That is a lot of time in the Swamp.

Blame Obama, this is his design. I remember during his term it being mentioned that if you weren’t aligned with him you retired, new ones had to align with him.

I didn’t expect anything less.

That said, this isn’t tolerable. PDJT needs to make an example and then clean house, replace with patriots that respect the chain of command.

Sorry the money is there. The amount of money misappropriated by the military is billions upon billions. I remember paying $100 for small thin cork washers. I was repairing circuit boards for fighter jets. I was a micro-miniature repair technician. I asked if I could make the washers for a penny, was told no. They had to come from England.

During Carter’s last year to help his campaign the base commanders arranged a show of force demonstration. Everyone on the base had to participate (force march into the 29 Palms desert). They spent hundreds of millions of dollars on munitions. I will admit it was pretty cool, but I was watching money just burn away. It was a powerful demonstration of Jets, Tanks, cannons, and cannon fodder.

As a side-note, first tour was telecommunications, second avionics. The secret service would not let me climb a pole over 20 feet during Carter’s visit.

Semper Fi!

“...About ten gazillion bureaucrats are involved and have access to the letter...”

Which means anyone of those folks could have leaked it.

Generals, right down to non-coms have been completely politicized over the years. All their efficiency reports delve into their support for Affirmative Action, feminism, and LGBT issues. Naturally, the lower enlisted don’t escape the constant brainwashing on these issues. They spend a lot of their time in classes dealing with these things.

It doesn’t surprise me a bit that a general in today’s military would risk his career in an attempt to take down Trump. He knows that if his military career is ended, he can always become a multi-million dollar talking head on CNN or MSNBC.

There is a high likelihood it was someone not even remotely associated with his "command," which by the way is a desk on 8th and Eye.
