One of the most simple and basic signs of intelligence is the understanding that actions lead to consequences.
In New York, some people are showing a basic lack of understanding of this concept.
In New York state, fracking is banned, and new pipelines have been prohibited in certain locations. The natural and logical outcome of these policies is that the state has a shortage of natural gas. Developers who had been planning to build new housing will not be allowed to hook up the new housing to receive natural gas.
Despite this obvious action-reaction event, the New York Times just reported that this inability to hook up these proposed new homes for natural gas is “unexpected.”
Here are the exact words as reported by the New York Times: (the bolding is mine)
YONKERS – Across the suburbs north of New York City, clusters of luxury towers are rising around commuter rail stations, designed to lure young workers seeking easy access to Manhattan. In all, 16,000 apartments and condominiums are in the works in more than a dozen towns, along with spaces for restaurants and shops.
But the boom unfolding in Westchester County is under threat not from any not-in-my-backyard opposition or a slumping real estate market.
Instead, it is coming from something unexpected: a lack of natural gas.
Con Edison, the regions main utility, says its existing network of pipelines cannot satisfy an increasing demand for the fuel.
As a result, the utility has taken the extreme step of imposing a moratorium on new gas hookups in a large swath of Westchester, including for residential buildings planned in Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle.
But is this shortage really “unexpected”?
Not for anyone who understands that actions have consequences.
The same article states:
There is an ample supply of natural gas in the United States, but opposition to building or expanding interstate pipelines has caused delivery challenges in the Northeast, according to industry officials.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo lives in Mount Kisco, a town included in Con Edisons moratorium, and wants the state to move away from fossil fuels toward cleaner energy, like wind. He has banned fracking, a process to extract gas from shale rock, and two years ago his administration rejected a major interstate pipeline project, saying its construction would endanger wetlands.
A person would have to be a complete idiot to support these bans and restrictions, while simultaneously being surprised that there’s a shortage of natural gas.
All of this reminds me of this scene from the movie Casablanca:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to end the use of fossil fuels over the next 10 years. I’d be curious to hear whether she supports or opposes letting the developers of this proposed new housing in New York hook up the housing to receive natural gas.
Reminds me of Marin County in the 80s/90s, when they didn’t want any water lines on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge then complained of water shortages 5 years later.
I would invest in “beans”, esp. Baked Beans, if the gas shortages continue. Those farting cows might end up with a hose up their butts that goes into gas bottles for home heating.
The next time a cow farts, thank them for providing us with heat.
The next time a leftist farts, light a match and run. Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire!
Hopefully, nobody will bail them out of their idiocy. Let them do without, it was their poor decision.
Let Cuomo use solar cells for all his needs. It’s hard to believe some of these idiots throw a wrench in the wheels of progress & then are dumbfounded when the wheels stop. It would be deserving if all those who voted for Cuomo could also be stuck with nothing but solar cells for their needs.
Left the state in 1980... best thing I’ve ever done..
About fifty percent of my high school class left...ones that stayed were government workers... policemen,firefighters,teachers...
Most are collecting the great pensions in Florida and other states...
Upstate except Albany looks like Detroit...
Pennsylvania is making a fortune across the boarder...wonder if there drilling into New York State????
The people in Massachusetts are short natural gas be use it has to go thru NEw York...fools all...
But in twenty years most states will be red...invasion of dumb democrats smart enough to leave but still vote democratic
Thats the energy fairies job...
New York State sits on top of the Marcellus Shale that has huge amounts of natural gas most sufficient to supply all their needs and an excess to export. They refused to develop it.
F them. They made their choice and need to live with it. Let them freeze in the dark.
PS
Here in Texas we have ample gas and electricity. We are not stupid. We even send natural gas to New York State. Perhaps we should not!
What produced the electricity?
New Yorkers need to learn to knit.
Most city people have no clue where anything comes from. Actually had one tell me one time that if there was a major disaster only the people in the cities would survive because that is where everything you need is. No idea that most things needed for survival don’t originate in the city.
Astonishing to me, that lack of real knowledge of how things work is why the left has no issue attacking farmers, ranchers, fishermen, utility providers, mining, pipelines, trucking, ETC. Attacking their means of survival without a thought.
Let the bastards freeze in the dark.
New York is welcome to use sewer gas.
Maybe the crazy libs will all freeze and die but that is too much to wish for I expect?
And they haven’t even BEGUN to experience what AOC wants to inflict upon that state!
My beloved’s got some family up on New York. While I feel sorry for them, as they do vote Republican, I do enjoy the ‘wake-up moment’ the New York City folks have to experience!
Just in the north east now, most of the electricity is produced with natural gas. Not sure about New York but I do know Connecticut is one of the few states that has approximately 50% nuclear and probably 40% natural gas and remaining 10 a mix of other. Other states are rely much more heavily on natural gas.
In the cold winter months natural gas has to be delivered for residential and commercial heating first only then can the remainder be used for power generation. In cold spells there’s not enough natural gas to supply both so the region is forced to buy power from places as far away as Canada to supply it’s electric needs at much higher rates than if they were to either permit extra natural extra natural gas pipelines or additional non-natural gas plants such as nuclear or coal. Of course the idiot left Then wonders why electricity is so expensive. Idiots.
Looks like Beto.
Import cows. Plenty of “natural gas”.
