You all remember The Covington Crucifixion, and one of the insane takeaways was that wearing a MAGA hat made you a Nazi. And no, this isn't just coming from Hollywood jet fuel geniuses like Alyssa Milano, but from NBC News itself. Yes, really, I'm not making this up:
These are just two examples - I could go all day and the good folks in the comments could spend weeks providing examples that go along the lines of "Your support for a President who I personally hate prevents me from thinking like a rational human being." But let's distill two basic messages from both sides. What does MAGA actually stand for? I mean, literally. It says "Make America great again." Seriously, what is wrong with wanting your country to be great? Were we all supposed to be happy with low economic growth, high real unemployment, foreign policy that made Dubya look like Bismark, scandal after scandal, etc? I know that this slogan generated hysterical cries of "Trump is obsessed with undoing the legacy of his predecessor!' from the people who giggled and cheered through their blind devotion to a president who was obsessed with undoing the legacy of his 43 predecessors. Which brings us to President Trump's predecessor.I think people should be aware too that wearing a MAGA hat is aligning yourself with literal Nazis. It's a deliberate provocation, which is likely to spark and escalate conflict. That's what wearing them is meant to do. Noah Berlatsky (@nberlat) January 24, 2019
"Hope and Change" was a cute and vacuous statement that perfectly matched the man who said it. But when combined with his "We are just days away from fundamentally transforming this country!" comment, Obama's rhetoric takes a more sinister tone. We Conservatives know that our country isn't perfect, but we don't feel it needs to be destroyed, either. If that sounds like an exaggeration I like to use the example of a wedding rehearsal dinner toast:
You have a buddy who's about to get married to this girl who seems really cool, but you really don't know much about her. Her past is a bit murky, and she seems to have a talent for making people feel good about themselves by telling them what they want to hear. At the rehearsal dinner, she throws her arm around her soon to be husband, raises her drink and triumphantly proclaims, "I am just 24 hours away from fundamentally transforming this man!" Now I don't think like a Leftist, but does this sound like a phrase you would say about someone who you loved? Someone you respected? If I genuinely cared about this guy I would probably dive across the table, tackle her to the ground and shout to my buddy, "Forget about me, save yourself! RUN, YOU FOOL!!!"
That said, where were the almost daily stories about Conservatives assaulting people repping the gear of the man who literally promised to destroy the country that we love? I wrote about this seven years ago in my "Falling Out of Love with Obama Explained in One Picture":
Living in DC, I remember the feeling around town. Among conservatives there was a very guarded hope that electing a man with little experience and radicals in his past might somehow work. But among the left? There was a certain electricity in the air. People seemed happier, milling about, some proudly wearing their creepy baubles to proclaim their cult membership (Obama buttons, t-shirts, hats, handbags, etc). Then the messiah they had elected actually had to do something he had never been asked to do before do his job; lead and take responsibility. And the results have been predictable. Again, how did so many fall for this act?Read the whole thing. That was one of those fun to write posts that I'll warn you in advance has some NSFW language in it, but I think you'll agree that the profanity was useful in making my point. It will be part of another post I need to write regarding why Leftists were so angry during Obama's presidency, but that's for another day. One last piece I'll leave you with comes from one of The Other McCain's several reports from CPAC:

This year everyone is offended.
“This year everyone is offended.”
Your post offends me and I am suffering because your narrow mindset is unable to cope with my very real victimization.
I think I shall go hug my stuffed unicorn for two hours to recover.
So when I wear a Jets hat? Its about supporting the team and if other people see it as a middle finger surely that is there problem.
I wear my MAGA hat everywhere. Other than a few nasty stares I mostly get NICE HAT remarks.
... and to the Democrat/Left, when someone is offended that makes them a victim ... and when someone is a “victim” they do not have to abide by societal norms and behavior; that is, they are entitled to act irresponsibly and uncivily, and to break laws.
Gee, I hope it’s a rainbow colored one ... :)
Go you good thing FR needs a thumbs up!
Truly there are people who are offended that you don’t agree and approve of them and their proclivities. They want you to change for them, but they don’t have to change for you. They don’t see the hypocrisy in that. The only explanation is that they’re mentally unstable and insecure.
I have never been accused of being a Nazi, but should it happen my response would be; “Heavens no, I could never be a socialist.”
When the accuser argues that Nazis were facists, I will inform them that yes, they were facists, who were also socialists. It’s in their party’s name, “National Socialist German Workers’ Party”.
Should be good for some mental vapor-lock.
I read some sage wit who said “Sometimes I think we should change our national motto from “E pluribus unum” to “You owe me an apology”.
If anyone gets offended by my MAGA hat, my response is, WELCOME TO MY WORLD! I see and hear crap I find offensive, quite often. I may react in an angry but respectful non violent manner, but I don’t lose my sh!t over it. For example, somewhere in NYC is an apartment building with a statue of Lenin on the roof. If I went by it, yeah I’d be a bit perturbed, but my inner smartass would be inclined to move in that building and squat, demanding the owners let me live there rent free, as any good little communist should. Hey, Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals #4, force the enemy to live by their own rules. You know, like, SHARE THE LAND, MAN!
Good writers don't need profanity to make a point.
You must live in a fairly conservative area, where libs are a clear minority.
My Texas town is mostly conservative, but we're on the outskirts of Dallas, which is majority Dem. Wearing a MAGA cap around here will definitely provoke a rash of mixed reactions.
Yep. Pretty hypocritical of people who can't speak three consecutive sentences without uttering the F word.
I’m offended that you are offended. To be offended is to support President Trump and all the leftist papers say that supporting him is supporting Nutzis. Really, it is thrue. The New York Times says so and so does Alexandra ocasio. Obambi was the most brilliant person evah. He waw like Einstein Newton Mother Theresa and Stephen Hawkings combined, only more brilliant
