Hitler did NOT want to go to war with the US.

Heck he didn’t want to go to war with England!

For some stupid reason, he thought our blood and thoughts were like his.

Trump would have let them sort out their differences. We had our own problems. The Great Depression would not have lasted so long.

Hitler thought the US was a mongrel country, but he pointed to how people had forgotten the US genocide of the Indians along with the Turkish Armenian genocide as examples to show that his proposed Jewish genocide would soon be forgotten by the world. He also saw an analogy to his proposed conquest of the USSR in the US conquest of the West (He sometimes referred to the Russians as “redskins”). In those two ways he saw the US as a good role model.

Hitler did NOT want to go to war with the US.

Then why did he declare war on us?

We did not declare war on him and there was a good chance we would not have done so. Japan was our enemy, Germany was a maybe. There was a major push to keep us out of the war in Europe, at least until Japan was dealt with.

But Hitler declared war on the US and at that point the argument became moot.

Whether we were their enemy, they had decided to become ours.

“Heck he didn’t want to go to war with England!”

If he really didn’t want that, then he wouldn’t have invaded Poland.

"Heck he didn’t want to go to war with England!..."

This is true. In the 1930s the Nazis were decided Anglophiles. They thought the British aristocracy was paragon. They even took up fox hunting to emulate the Brits.

But that changed after he invaded Poland and signed a non-aggression pact with Stalin, which put Hitler at loggerheads with Churchill.
