I'm very partial to this scope for a lot of reasons. It has an actual etched black reticle, so even with a dead battery it's still a "real" scope. (It takes a little coin-sized CR-2032 battery, and they are so small you can store extras in the rifle grip.)
If I could afford thousand-dollar 4X Trijicon, that would be better, (no batteries), but it's just out of my price range. For less money, I put a Burris on each of my ARs.
At my age with my eyes, a 3X or 4X is ideal. With iron sights I can't make out indistinct targets in brush in low light. With the Burris, the target pops out very clearly.
Up close (zero to about 25 yards) I don't feel I give anything away with a 3X. I've taken high-speed carbine classes and did great in the fast and close drills. But from 50 yards back, the 3X is pure benefit.

Got a model number on that scope, or link?
Interesting article. I’ve become a bit of a fan of the 9mm world, with the new Ruger carbine to supplement my other toys.
I’m really wishing at this point that I hadn’t bought into the .40 crazy a couple of decades ago.
(sigh)
Anyway, thanks for all you write - interesting stuff, always!

I just picked up a Burris AR-536 (like the one in your post) for my SCAR 17s. Haven’t got it out to the range yet, but I can already tell it’s one sweet scope.

That's the exact Burris prism site I have on my AR-10A4 (carbine), and yes it's a sweetie. I also have the kill-flash to cover the objective lens and the quick-detach mount, which I highly recommend. I've experimented with the mount pretty extensively, and it will allow the site to be removed and remounted with virtually no loss of zero.
The BDC reticle is designed primarily for 5.56, but with practice you can learn to mentally calibrate it for 7.62.

May I suggest a Saiga-12 or Bennelli with drum mag and bipod?
Or you could go full bad-vision mode
There's just something about a large-bore weapon firing at high cyclic rate.
