Palmetto State Armory gives us Another one for the Wish List
With all the rage going on about AR pistol, Palmetto State Armory came out with a very cool AK. Its not just an AK but an AK pistol that shoots a 9mm. Palmetto put quality first when they worked on this piece. You can run it suppressed, un-suppressed, full metal jacket, hollow points whatever and it works.
Palmetto did some modifications on the PSA-AKV pistol such as extended finger latch for the safety, 35 rounds Scorpion style magazines style, bolt catch and release on the side. The pistol also has a last round bolt hold open feature.
Picatinny Top Railed, Hinged Dust Cover
The top picatinny railed dust cover was designed so most common low mount red dot optics will co-witness with the front and rear sight.
Under the hinged cover reveals a piston inside the pistol. But its a really a weight that’s designed to provide balance, light recoil and reliability. Read the rest of 9mm AK.

While the AK is my favorite platform, and 9mm my favorite pistol round due to velocity and the fact they expand up to .72” on impact, I see little reason to combine the two. One large advantage to 9mm is basically no recoil impulse, which would be much greater recoil given the Kalash action slamming back and forth. While I would be interested in experimenting with 9mm loads with a slightly slower burning powder in a longer, rifle length barrel, preferably 147 grain, I’m not sure an AK is what I would try it in. I’d have it for my collection if for nothing else.
Agreed on the dust covers, which is why I don’t mount on them. Try an ultimak/aimpoint. My Mak90 has a nitrided barrel as opposed to chrome I had installed some years ago, and it groups around the size of my fist at 250 yards. All squared up to the action with about .0002” runoff. Also got a pws sfc compensator. Makes those 7.62x39s feel more like a 55gr .223. I put a lot of work in it over the years and it’s one of my finest rifles
I got a side rail on it that I put there, nice and level with the bore axis. My simmons glass stays on the mount, but unless I’m shooting at something about 8” in diameter at 400, I remove the whole side mount as I generally don’t run glass. It’s my hunting optic, and all the rest of the time I run an ultimak/aimpoint combo with an angled grip and a 600 lumen light. Straight cut milled receiver, stuck an MOE collapsible stock on it with a convertible 1 or 2 point sling and called it a day
