Why would you want to be president?
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) has not yet announced a bid for the White House, but on Friday the California senator faced a line of inquiry from MSNBC host Joe Scarborough that he credits with dooming the presidential campaign of former Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).
Speaking on "Morning Joe," Harris was asked by the co-host why she wants to be president the same question that some historians point to as the end of Kennedy's ill-fated 1980 campaign for the White House.
"I want to ask you the Roger Mudd question that he asked to Ted Kennedy, that Ted Kennedy couldn't answer and really doomed his presidency from day one," Scarborough began. "And that is: Why would you want to be president?"
Harris responded by saying the country is looking for vision and leadership.
"Because I believe our country wants and needs leadership that provides a vision of the future of our country in which everyone can see themselves," Harris told Scarborough.
"So let's start from that, and then think about what we need to do to speak to all of the people of our country, to ensure that we see them, to understand we don't need to accept false choices in terms of how we approach public policy," she added. "I'm a career prosecutor. I've spent my entire life, almost, focused on public safety."
"We can do that and also focus on issues like what we need to do to build a healthy economy," Harris said.
A local California radio station reported this week that the senator is planning to announce whether she will enter the presidential primary race on or around Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Harris told CNN's Jake Tapper this week that a decision on a run was coming "soon."
"We have to give the American people more credit, and we have to understand that the American public and the people of our country are smart people who will make decisions about who will be their leader based on who they believe is capable, who they believe has an honest desire to lead, to represent, to see them, to be a voice for them even if they have no power," Harris told CNN this week.
If she declares, Harris would emerge as a possible front-runner in the Democratic primary alongside Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D), who announced her own exploratory committee for president earlier in January.
The Democratic primary field is expected to be the most crowded in the party's history, with a few dozen hopefuls rumored to be considering a run.

Ted Kennedy is asked in 1979 why he wants to be President and does not have an answer.
All four of my grandparents were born in the United States between 1893 and 1896 to subjects of the Emperor of Germany or of Her Britannic Majesty Victoria.
None of them were naturalized. On my two grandfathers’ WW I draft cards, there are three categories for citizenship: Natural born, Naturalized, or Alien.
Both grandfathers checked “natural born”.
If they were not that, what were they? Are you saying there is a fourth category?
Ask her how she qualifies? Will she give the first Cruz answer or the second?
Her not being a natural born citizen alone, shouldn’t be a problem.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because Republicans have already cooperated in violating the Constitution with the Kenyanesian Usurpation and they have their own ineligibles they want to run.
“Im still wandering around in her meaningless answer.”
She gave a very eloquent answer that was designed to let the listener write in their personal beliefs on top of her answer. In effect she said nothing. She is Obama during his first election, this is just Obama part two. Their philosophy is identical and just a continuation of the same.
When she hooked up with Brown she chose wisely as did Brown.
He should ask how she parts her legs.
In other words, “We have a vision in which everyone can potentiate their body of essence, in order to maximize their realization of their potential, and energize their existence in a way that resources their inner self, and channels that successive property into an actual essence, beyond anything that the human psyche can effectively approach!”
Native Born Citizen.
Not gonna be president
My understanding is if your parents were citizens of other countries you had the option of being a citizen of one those countries or the US. That means you’re not “naturally” born a US citizen because you are not free and clear of foreign influence which was the concern of the founders. Example Obama’s father was a Brit citizen by virtue of being from Kenya. Therefore Obama could not be a NBC and was not qualilfied to be president.
My grandparents were born in sicily anomy father couldn’t run for president.
Lastly, it is apparent we need the USSC to step up and define this.
Spoken like a true lying politician.
What the Sam Hill does that even mean???
It’s a given that she’s going to run. This is going to be quite some rodeo. It’ll be like shooting fish in a barrel for Trump.
And yet this country elected Barack Hussein Obama to the presidency not once, but twice, seven years after 911. Please....
It’s not supposed to mean anything. It’s just supposed to sound good to an audience that judges by emotion only.
“the future of our country in which everyone can see themselves...and then think about what we need to do to speak to all of the people of our country, to ensure that we see them”
Summary: being President is about seeing and being seen. It’s a celebrity thing. Four years of Fame. That’s sort of what it’s all about. Kind of.
With all due respect that question should be asked of Willie Brown. Ironic his nickname is Willie. :) They both chose wisely.
